Half of Twitter's top 100 advertisers appear to no longer be advertising on the website. A report from Media Matters for America states that these 50 advertisers have spent almost $2 billion on Twitter ads since 2020 and more than $750 million just in 2022. Seven additional advertisers have slowed their advertising to almost nothing, according to the report, which was published on Tuesday. These companies have paid Twitter more than $255 million since 2020.

I'm sure all those nervous advertisers can't WAIT for the return of "1488JewOvenMaster666QAnonOverlord"

That should really ad some brand polish and class up the joint.

Good! That is exactly what Musk deserves, hope it costs him billions. Have you heard about his new book? "How to Piss Away $44 billion dollars".

This is how things are supposed to work. It is the free market working, rejecting a business that gets enthralled by ideology. This seems to me to demonstrate that there is no need for the government to get involved. It will work itself out through the free market.

A good example for a libertarian or other type of (actual) small government leaning partisan to use.

When you've got as much money as Musk you can piss away $44 billion and not worry about it.

Who cares, they will be replaced with businesses buying gold, selling "supplements", online betting and imitation viagra. Business will suffer no loss of income from this.

It appears that the extremes of political positions doesn't fit most folk, be that woke or MAGA. Other than the minority that go to those extremes, no one else wants to be there. So basically, those in such places are getting an echo chamber effect and being abandoned by mainstream.

I have never seen an ad on twitter that interested me.
The ones I see, I block.

I don't know how twitter makes money.

I have bought a few things targeted at me. Like the hoodie I got a few years back that Facebook helped me buy*. You can get through life in San Diego with that but there's nothing wrong with having one.

*I phrased it this way as a commentary on how far gone advertising is. They want us to believe it's altruism. Ask your doctor if fromunda is right for you!

I'm the same way. There's no ad I want to see. If a product is really good, your neighbor will tell you of it and s/he won't get paid to do so. If not, I know how to search and find what I'm looking for without being hounded. Those having to push ads, have something wrong with the product. Doesn't work well, costs too much, watered down too much, low quantity or quality, ect. It raises the price of the goods, as corporate overhead is included in the price. That's part of the reason store brands don't cost what national brands do...they don't normally advertise.

In addition, the unscrupulous will turn an ad into malware. I've been in places where those that didn't run ad blockers got malware, while I skated through unfazed. Its reached the point ads are a cancer on the internet. Thank you but no thank you.

"So who really cares"

The harassment victims, to name a few. Their banned attackers are being let back on; how would you feel if you were one of the targets???

Seeing has 5k (conservative estimate) employees left the company ... And let's say low end each was making 150k a year. That's 750MM the company is saving not having to pay people. They're still very much so profitable.

Doesn't come close to the 1+ billion dollars in annual interest Elon faces on the loan he took out to buy a company that was already in sizeable debt in the first place.

"Seeing has 5k (conservative estimate) employees left the company"

Twitter had 7.4k employees when bought.

Got any examples of tech companies firing half their payroll then another third quitting and it working out good?

This is the kind of thing companies do when they're desperate to cut costs. Why would someone pay $44B for a company in such dire financial straits?
