Around midnight on the Monday before Thanksgiving, 2,700 workers at United Furniture Industries in Mississippi got a text message that they were terminated immediately and barred from the workplace. "Your layoff from the company is expected to be permanent and all benefits will be terminated immediately without provision of COBRA," the company texted, denying employees a continuation of their health care benefits under federal law. |
