Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Paul Krugman: As late as mid-2021, my inbox was full of assertions that China's apparent success in containing the coronavirus showed the superiority of the Chinese system over Western societies that, as one commentator put it, "did not have the ability to quickly organize every citizen around a single goal." At this point, however, China is flailing even as other nations are more or less getting back to normal life. It's still pursuing its zero-Covid policy, enforcing draconian restrictions on everyday activities every time new cases emerge. This is creating immense personal hardship and cramping the economy; cities under lockdown account for almost 60 percent of China's G.D.P.

That part is true.
But, it's kinda like saying the AR-15 is superior to the muskets of the Revolutionary war.
The AR is has superior capability, but whether or not that's a good thing or a bad thing comes down to what you do with it.

Aaaaalso if you're an autocrat in a society where the people are apt to organize, you'd better make sure you're the only one organizing them.
You wouldn't want some Falun Gong cult coming in and screwing things up.
Better make sure John Cena apologizes too.

What?

Give governments control and they tend not to relinquish it?

That's what's playing out here, along with large Chinese companies make profits and bribing officials, out of COVID hysteria.

"Give COMMUNIST governments control and they tend not to relinquish it?"

FTFY

Our government still has free and fair elections and control is still *peacefully transferred.

In spite of you magamorons and republicans best efforts otherwise.

*2020 being the first ever exception to that rule.

There was an incredibly short window early on where eradication was possible.

The lack of a unified global response for those precious few weeks guaranteed it was here to stay and doomed China's efforts from the very beginning.

Especially when you combine that with the rate of mutation which we thought was MUCH lower in the initial months.

That's true, but during the height of COVID I recall there being more than a few on this site clamoring for lockdowns, as well as punishing people for not abiding by them.

Not so different than the path China has pursued.

"clamoring for lockdowns" - Link? This from the idiot that said masks were useless.

It looks like when it comes to science China is good at stealing ideas and replicating Technology but apparently when it comes to the Medical Science they're not that good.

Conditions in the US never remotely approached conditions in China.

Why do righties have to lie all the time? About everything?

Maybe the Chinese government should have allowed the inspection of their labs, scientists and data rather than spread misinformation?

I understand that their vaccine isn't as "successful". :/

Maybe they didn't kill enough pets and animals?

Over a million dead from Covid in the USA so far. On PBS a doctor said 150,000 more are expected. Mostly those unvaccinated over 65.
