In a campaign speech during his run for the Georgia Senate, Herschel Walker told a crowd he is currently a resident of Texas. "I live in Texas," Walker told the University of Georgia College Republicans in January while criticizing Democrats for not visiting the U.S. border. "I went down to the border off and on sometimes," he said.

Republicans don't care.

Like ol' Bozo, they all have a perverted moral compass.

He's a Republican, so this is irrelevant. Republicans aren't subject to complying with trifles like election rules or any laws, really.

Claiming the tax break for primary residence in Texas should disqualify him, but I think voters will solve the problem.

I'm pretty sure there are no laws that apply to Republicans. Disqualification is a quaint notion, after T***p. Laws don't matter unless you're a Democrat.

So, basically ignore the Constitutio and allow Texas to have rhree Senators. The Georgis Supremr Court should disqualify this fool just for being so incredibly sruptd.

It's hard to think of anything more cynical than Republicans running the neurologically impaired Black man for Senate. Beyond the politics, no one felt sorry for him? No one tried to get him help?

"The GOP's continuing anxiety to curry favor from Trump testifies to its evolution into a lawless party. It has absorbed Trump's authoritarian values and methods, meaning anything is legitimate if it is in the service of gaining and maintaining power."

"Claiming the tax break for primary residence in Texas should disqualify him"

Texas's tax credit and GAs rules for running for office aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

For example, TX residence might be 186 or more days in the calendar year, while GA may simply require residence for 60 or more days in GA leading up to the election.

"I live in Texas."

For once he's telling the truth:

Herschel Walker has never lived at the home he claims in Georgia. He has owned it for 17 years, and has rented it out for 17 years.

Walker doesn't live in Georgia. He lives in Texas.

Rules of the Senate...REQUIRE a senator to live in the state they represent.

When Hilary moved to NY you would've thought the world was ending the way the GOP howled over it, yet here we are with them embracing a candidate who hasn't changed his residence to GA.

It's just part of the ever growing hypocrisy of the right.

What Georgia GOP voters say: "Hershel is a sinner and we forgive him. He's a great man and deserves to run and win. He did great here in college. We don't believe all that about the abortion thing is is accused of. And Texas--Yee Haw!"

What Georgia GOP voters mean to say: "We need the votes in the Senate, and Trump likes him..."

He is a complete fool, but he is not disqualified by or breaking any laws regarding residency.

Homestead exemption is based on residency on January 1st. If he claims Texas residency on January 1st, he qualifies for the homestead exemption for the ENTIRE year, even if he permanently moved to Georgia on January 2nd. (He cannot claim the homestead exemption in Georgia)

As to running for office, the Constitution requires a candidate to be an "inhabitant" of the state at "when elected". He can live wherever he wants during the campaign as long as he demonstrates that he was an "inhabitant" of Georgia on Election Day.

Recall that Hillary ran for Senator of NY while living at the White House.

That this walking talking dumpster fire actually got a percentage of the vote is an argument in favor of a literacy test for everybody voting in the state of Georgia.

In fact the more I see of the way Southerners vote more I wish their votes didn't matter.

They have a residence in Chappaqua, New York. Only a complete moron would make such a comparison...All Senators have a residence in DC. She was First Lady, dumb*ss.

It reminds me of a conversation I had many times while writing police reports.

Q "What is your address?"
A "Whatchu mean ADDress, you gotta be more PACIFIC"
Q "Where do you LIVE?"
A "You mean where do I stay, or where do I BE at?"
Q "Whatever, I just need your address for the report, your drivers license says Prospect Street, is that correct?"
A " No that's just my MAILIN address, I don't live there."
A " Okay, where do you LIVE?
A "Well, I keep my ---- at my Mamas house on 22nd Street, but I STAY at my fianc house on Jefferson Parkway, but I BE at my cousins house on the East side most of the time"

Chuffy Not sure what got your parties in a wad or made you feel the need to call me names. I'm not criticizing Hillary or comparing her to Hershel on personal terms. Im pointing out that the LEGAL question of residency is the same. She bought the New York house about a year before the election her but didn't actually live there until after she was elected.

#27 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2022-12-01 01:45 AM | Reply

According to your logic Miranda there should be any senators or congressmen because they can't be in 2 places simultaneously.

RJ your reading comprehension sucks.. That's pretty much the opposite of. what I said.
You and Chuffy both need to scroll on up and say you are sorry

All I did was clarify the law concerning residency for candidates. You CAN legally run for Senate while living elsewhere. That is what Both Hillary and Herschel have done.

Not really:

Meanwhile, in September 1999, the Clintons purchased a $1.7 million, 11-room, Dutch Colonial style home in Chappaqua, New York, north of New York City. . . .In November 1999, Hillary Clinton announced that she would set aside most of her official duties as First Lady in order to take up residency in New York and pursue her campaign. Her move-in took place in January 2000, with the house furnished with many of the couple's possessions from their Arkansas days. It became the first time since Woodrow Wilson's first wife died in 1914 that a president lived in the White House without a spouse.

Food for thought: The Clintons have continued to live in NY for the past 2 decades. Does anyone think that Walker is going to stay in GA if he loses to Warnock?

#33 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2022-12-01 07:32 AM | Reply

BTW, Hillary visited every county in NY state when she ran for the Senate. She could have done that by flying in from DC every week, but she didn't. Personally, I think she moved to Chappaqua to take a break from Bill for a while after the Lewinski scandal as much as she did it to run for the Senate, but she did do it.

Herschel was one hell of a running back. Speed, power, vision, fluidity. If he'd gone into the NFL instead of the USFL he'd probably be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

There is nothing else admirable about him.

Gal, there are other articles saying she continued to live in the White House. It's likely she spent time in both places. Regardless, the law doesn't require any particular length of time as an "inhabitant" of the state when running for Senate, so there was no question that she was within the law, as is the mentally defective ex-football player.

It's always a good time to remind folks the Stable Genius wrecked the USFL and damaged the NFL for a decade. Then when he took office he immediately tried to stick his meddling nose right back into the NFL, like the POTUS doesn't have anything else to do. A harbinger of what was to come.

There was nothing too petty to escape the wrath of the Stable Genius. You name it:

NFL
Mika Brzenski's facelift
Rosy O'Donnell's weight
Rand Paul's hair

Ad infinitum

A defining moment for me was when he called Stormy Daniels "horseface". As soon as someone reduces their arguments to playground insults, I lose any remaining respect for them, which is why I have so little respect for so many of you here.

I remember when Congress decided to launch an investigation into Major League Baseball. Now that was a dog and pony show. Can't remember whose idea it was.
