Kevin McCarthy Threatens Defund Military over Vaccine Mandate

The annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), is set to be voted on and the pair discussed it when they met in person last week. The bill sets out the policies and funding for various defense agencies, and by not supporting the bill, McCarthy and other Republicans would be defunding the military. "I told the President, I was very clear from the very beginning," McCarthy said. "If he wants the NDAA, you have got to lift the vaccinate mandate on our military men and women."

When they could be deployed anywhere at a moments notice, this does not satisfy "readiness" and it would seem to court disaster in a contested forward area.

There is a truth that the Republican Party wants hidden here, in order to protect its more right wing religious voters.
That truth is that the military must have the right to inoculate all of its members as they might have to go to any part of the world and live under primitive conditions. When I was in the military we had a million shots, and it was necessary as the combat zone was Southeast Asia.
Religious exemptions for vaccines can only weaken the military.

I've nowvinxpert who say Qe read analysis by more than one political numbers experts who say Qevin will never be Speaker of the House and I'm pretty sure threatening to defund the military will not be popular among most Republican members of Congress. Using national security as a bargaining chip to curry favor with religious lunatics could quite easily fraxture the Hpise majority in January. Qevin is not a good keader for the GQP. Also, sorry to borrow the quite clever fespelling of Mcarthy's first name but it is so perfect I jusr couldn't resisr. Same with GQP. Q sould be inserted into everything Republican.

It is short sighted on his part, but he is only concerned with power and is not concerned with good stewardship of the country.

Give into these anti-vax loons on this and soon all the required vaccines will be optional. The last thing this nation needs is it's fighting force diminished due to easily preventable illnesses.

Vaccines have been mandatory since George Washington.

I might agree but military personnel need to be paid they have bills just like the rest of us. A one month delay could be devastating for a family. But I do agree with your basic point, threatening to defund the military is on of the stupidest threats any politician could make. Qevin just shot himself in the foot, evev his felloe Republicans might decide they don't want him as a leader over that.

Considering how politicized the COVID-19 vaccine has become, the military is better off without the snowflakes that don't want to take the vaccine.

A low unemployment rate and rising take home pay probably has more to do with poor recruiting than potential recruits not wanting to take the vaccine. The military needs to boost pay.
