Let's see. Pharma hikes prices, consumers complain, the Biden administration proposes legislation to reduce prices, republicans thwart democrat's efforts, consumers get mad at republicans.

Is that about right?

Isn't it interesting that the price hikes occur at the start of a new congress. Will consumers still be mad at republicans in 2 years?

I don't think that people should drag big pharma's CEOs out into the parking lot and beat them into jelly with iron bars.

That would be wrong.

Comrades! I warned you, didn't I? You can blame Biden and Zelenskyy of Ukraine for this. People around the world are suffering over just a little bit of land in Ukraine.

No they're suffering because stopping the spread of fascism and death of democracy is worth it.

"We pay more for prescription drugs than any other advanced nation in the world. And there's no good reason for it," Biden said from the White House. "For years, Big Pharma has stood in the way. Not this year.

"This year, the American people won, and Big Pharma lost."

"Imagine being the parent of a kid suffering from Type 1 diabetes. Let's say you're paying $500, $600, $700 a month. You don't have it," he continued. "How in God's name do you look at that child?"

"Under Donald Trump, my Republican friends had no problem enacting a $2 trillion tax cut that overwhelmingly benefited the wealthiest Americans and the biggest corporations " not a penny which was paid for and massively increased the federal debt," Biden said, adding that the debt ceiling was raised by $2 trillion when Trump was in office.

"In 2020, 55 of the biggest corporations in America made $40 billion in profit. I'm happy for the profit," he continued. "But they didn't pay a single penny in federal income tax."

...

U.S. President Joe Biden raised $61.8 million for his inauguration events, receiving large contributions from corporations, labor unions and wealthy individuals, according to a financial disclosure.

...

The pharmaceutical industry has spent nearly $263 million on lobbying so far this year, employing three lobbyists for every member of Congress, according to OpenSecrets, which tracks money in politics. Millions of those dollars are in the form of campaign donations.

...

November 1, 2021
U.S. pharmaceutical companies are expected to collect more revenue from COVID-19 vaccines in the third quarter than they did in the entire first half of the year, and that money should continue to grow.

In the first half of the year, Pfizer Inc. PFE and Moderna Inc. MRNA reported collective sales of $17.2 billion for their vaccines, but both are expected to report higher third-quarter totals in the coming week, a collective $18 billion. Pfizer is scheduled to report earnings Tuesday morning, while Moderna follows on Thursday morning, after Johnson & Johnson JNJ reported last week more than $500 million in third-quarter sales, nearly double the $264 million it collected in the first half.

Pfizer collected revenue of $11.3 billion in the first half of the year from its COVID-19 vaccine, now known as Comirnaty, and analysts project third-quarter sales of $11.86 billion. Those numbers could be a bit high, however, as some sales could get pushed into the fourth quarter, when booster shots and the newly authorized vaccine for younger children begin landing in arms.

Joe is in big pharma's pocket. Nothing Joe proposes lowers cost. Only shifts them around and preserves big pharma profits.

Health Care, including drugs, should be like sidewalks, public libraries, streets, Fire, EMT, Police, and the Military ect ... we pool our money to get the best deals on products and prices and services.

But no.... that would too intelligent for people who prefer to be, "rugged individualists". Which is what the moneyed interests want them to believe.

Wait they raised prices on only 350 drugs?

Out of 20k that's less than 2%, compared to the 1400 in '22 that feels like they decided to use lube this year. Yay us!

Well...fellow travelers of the way. Most of you want an answer. The best solution is to have health insurance. But work for a company that provides it. Get away from working for small retailers and businesses that keep you poor. Guess what? Many countries like Canada have free health insurance. And years ago the capitalists in the USA were ringing their hands saying that Canada's system will fail. But it hasn't. In the capitalist USA it is "Trickle-Down!", "One up on YOU!", "The other side of the door!", and "The back of the bus!" for you and you and you! That's why over 1,160,000 are dead from Covid-19. That's why Trump said inject yourself with bleach.

The Republican plan has been to let Big Pharma do anything it wants.

Of course they will. This is the result of Capitalism mixing in with Socialism. Universal health insurance means the people only bear a small brunt of the cost increases at the register but the insurance companies feel the brunt much, much more. Since profit is the name of the game, these companies know they can raise the prices because the costs are spread out, making them more digestible to the everyday person. It's always going to be this way until we decide which system we want to keep our insurance under...either unfettered Capitalism where the people are hit harder by price increases or Socialism where the government is free to govern private companies in any way they see fit. Can't do both in everything. It works in some things, like roads and such. But personal use economics cannot be run this way.
