Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 03, 2023

Workers in bright yellow vests circled up in the morning chill. Some clutched cups of Starbucks coffee, a last comfort before beginning the hard work of dismantling a statue of Confederate Gen. A.P. Hill in the middle of an intersection.

Lazy, pampered, whiney whites won't do a job a self-starting, self-respecting Black man who's not afraid of work happily accepts. Lol.

Erasing history again in this USA so-called "free" country? Isn't it strange that we never hear about USA atrocities in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and on and on? Oh! Still looking for those Saddam Hussein weapons of mass destruction?

There really doesn't seem to be any erasing of history going on here. Think of historical commemoration, interpretation and observation as influenced by something akin to an Overton Window. AP Hill violated his oath to the Constitution and engaged in an armed revolt against the United States of America. Will that be "erased"? Not likely. But does the fetish folks in previous generations had for these people need to occupy a prominent place today, other than as objects suitable for study in, say, a museum? (A matter for discussion, to be sure.). My view is that unless that effigy of Little Powell commemorates him being so incapacitated by the clap that he needed to repeat his final year at West Point (there's a historical fact plus one of those solemn oaths of allegiance again), how on earth does that monument inform the present?

You aren't from the US and you just made that painfully obvious. We have all heard about them in the US. We have Liberals who make sure we remember our history, good and bad, despite Republicans trying to censor it.

good point #9, besides, the Civil War and it's
remnant statues and callbacks are 150+ years old
by now... No need to keep rubbing one version of
this nation's history, in the faces of the rest of
us that are ready to move on.

If you want to shove all of these statues and reminders
of America's Most Racist moment into a museum, I have
no problem with that. That is where they belong after
150+ years. In a museum. Not on 1st Avenue.

Erasing history again

Do you think that statues are the primary source of historical information stupid?

#11 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2023-01-04 03:24 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 4

After the Revolutionary war, all the statues to King George in places of honor in nearly all US cities and town squares were removed. And that is why today, nobody knows anything about that war, who lost, who won. Who the leaders were. Famous battles.

Nothing.

Surely there are Black contractors on the schedule.

#12 Books are where you learn. Not statues. Statues are typically put in to
show power. If you lost, you deserve none of the 'power' that statues convey.

Again. You want kids to learn history, then teach it to them in schools. But the
REAL history. Not the made up one that so many in the South want to teach that glosses
over all of the ugly things they did in their war of aggression against the Union.

We have a twenty-foot tall Civil War Memorial Statue in Oshkosh, WI downtown, commemorating battles, with a Union officer and two enlisted types charging. This is fine. Wisconsin contributed the Iron Brigade, after all!

Sycophant, I'd disagree with your statement. Liberals love to sweep under the rug the long and "proud" history of the Dems party alliance with the KKK. The fact that it was the Democrat Party that caused the Civil War. You guys also seem to always forget that Planned Parenthood was founded by a eugenics Bigot and we're still handing out the Margret Sanger award 3 years ago until you guys could no longer "cover" for her. So spare me the --------.

Context, Waffles.

You choose to ignore context, which has been explained to you and your ilk on the DR for YEARS.

Why you still choose ignorance regarding this matter is no longer curious, it's down right despicable.
