Kevin 0 for 11
GOP leader Kevin McCarthy gave in to key demands from conservative rebels, including making it easier to oust a sitting speaker. Those concessions could alienate moderate allies.

Kevin McCarthy is an ambitious man with absolutely no personal pride.
Therefore he's dangerous.

...and these are to be our 'leaders'? No wonder nothing gets done in congress. Here's a fine example up for public viewing.
Used to be in politics there was this thing called compromise. It allowed for both sides to get things done for the country. Now nearly nothing gets done for it unless it's to go to war or have some sort of political revenge. It's sicking to see this on display from supposedly our leaders.

Stop using the word "POLITICS" to describe a situation that only describes REPUBLICANS.
ONE party has lost it's mind. ONE party attempted a fascist coup. ONE party became the cult of a con man. This is not a politics problem its a republican problem.

Considering that the overall goals of the Never-Kevins is to obstruct every aspect of a functioning government, I don't think they will cave.
But, the Dems can let this go on for a while longer while Kevin gets even more desperate and approaches the them for a deal.
I just don't understand why moderate voters elect people that don't believe in our Federal government to run the Federal government. We can see the consequences of that so far this week, where the House is disfunctional. Even moderate Repubs understood that this would happen, and why they helped get the spending bill through before the new Congress.

Rosendale got name recognition as a Montana Public Services Commissioner, where he worked hard to dismantle state protections that shielded Montanans from exploitation by energy companies, all of which are from out of state.
Montana once controlled its own power and provided energy at a reasonable price while making a profit.
Republicans (like Rosendale) dismantled all of this, which turned into a huge debacle that cost the state a lot of money over the years.

I'm really curious what the anti-Kevin Republicans have asked him for privately that he has not yet agreed to give them. If even he won't bite, it's gotta be terrible. Like, Gaetz runs the intel committee level of terrible.

The insurrectionist seems to be trying for force McCarthy to bow out so they can nominate another Speaker that they trust not to stab them in the back.
McCarthy still has a very solid core of about 200 so there's no guarantee they'd follow along with that plan.
The left certainly isn't going to come to McCarthy aid either. McCarthy's as rotten as the group that's trying to unseat him.
Ideally, The FBI would storm in about now and arrest some of those troublemakers who are under investigation . . . but that only happens in movies.

There are not a dozen reasonable republican representatives who are willing to hold the hostage takers hostage by finding a compromise speaker or threatening to vote present and allow Jeffries to become speaker. That is the world we live in.

That's just an empty talking point they like to spread to appeal to people who don't understand the process and complexity of many bills that go through Congress. It can take years, decades even to craft bills before they even get introduced to committee where they then can spend months or even years through multiple introductions. They are crafted and poured over and revised by outside experts and filled with references to existing laws. As they move through the process they are debated and amended and those revisions are publicly available. One debated is closed and they are brought to vote it doesn't really matter much if you give them one day, 3 days, a month. These bills are not crafted in a way that even an educated novice would understand. Does anyone think that high school dropout Lauren Boebert or Matt Rosendale who has no secondary education is going to understand a biomedical research bill or 90 year old Dianne Feinstein is going to understand an internet security bill any better if you give them a few extra days to read it after debate is closed? There should be expert consultancy built-in throughout the process. The process needs to insure that is the case and if it does not then giving a few more days to a body of legislatures and their aids who aren't likely to understand the complexity of those bills isn't going to change anything.

That's what staffers are for, for example scientific advisors. So what if Boebert or Rosendale don't staff scientists, those two are in the minority, as they've demonstrated. Many reps have professional advisors, including scientists, who are perfectly capable of understanding and advising on complex legislation.

Yes, that was exactly my point in 157. Expert consultancy analyzing the bill as it develops over the long term is what is required for congressional members to actually kind of sort of form some type of loose understanding. The obamacare bill is a great example of his. That bill was in development for decades. It was revised time and again. It was debated to death several times. Then when it finally passed some in Congress acted as if they never had the opportunity to review the bill. What were they doing all of those years the the bill was introduced and reintroduced. Did they never consult with anyone who analyzed the bill while it was in committee? Are the ones making this complaint not putting in the work, lying or both?
