A proposed subcommittee to investigate "weaponization" of the federal government--a key demand of House conservatives who delivered Speaker Kevin McCarthy the gavel--would be given sweeping investigatory powers that include explicit authority to review "ongoing criminal investigations."

@#1 ... THey will do anything to try and protect DJT ...

Why?

I'd say DOJ should treat Congressional Subpoenas with the same seriousness as the Insurrection Caucus treated the Jan 6th Committee's subpoenas, but that won't happen because DOJ and Dems are about the rule of law, while the GQP is all about power, cheating to get it and cheating to keep it.

3. That makes no sense. The DOJ treated contempt of Congress very seriously when it came to Bannon ignoring subpoenas.

Because of that they are in a tough spot if the aGOP controlled house issues subpoenas that end up ignored.

Republican Party equals hatred of the rule of law, and of course, free and fair elections. Yes, there are some decent middle of the road Republican Party members, but they are usually not willing to take on the dark forces running their party, so for them, it is party over country.

sweeping investigatory powers that include explicit authority to review "ongoing criminal investigations."

The intent is to disrupt any and all criminal investigations into the GOP's actions and the actions of any of their members. They will directly use these powers to gain information, warn defendants, leak information, and do anything else they can do to make sure that no justice is ever served against any Republican. Instead they will weaponize these "investigative" powers against their political enemies.

That's what this is all about. Just like they did with the DOJ under Trump, just like they did with the Post Office under Trump, just like they tried to do with the CDC under Trump, so on and so on. Just like DeSantis has done throughout Florida.

There are no GOP members left to stand against this, either.

There are only two factions in the GOP: the crazy and the craven.

LOL, like the FISA warrant and the makeup of the Jan 6 commission?

#9 - you are so clueless. That right-wing talking point is long dead.

Umm no they are not dumass.

Congress issued subpoenas to House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and four other GOP representatives to testify to the committee about their involvement with Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election: Reps. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Andy Biggs of Arizona and Mo Brooks of Alabama.

All five ignored the subpoenas.

The precedent had been set by the now Speaker of the House that is ok to ignore Congress.

Swallow it all down. It's gonna be so tasty.

How did the FISA warrant investigation turn out? Big nothing burger? Alright then.

And how did Republicans refusing to join the Jan 6 commission turn out? Bad for Republicans AGAIN? No surprise.

Sorry. I'm sure there was a point you were trying to make. But no one knows what it was.

"weaponization" of the federal government

As this is simply laying the groundwork for Republicans to establish themselves as victims, I'm sure they'll completely ignore that this has been going on since at least the Starr investigation.

You say a lot of really dumb things and this ranks right up there with among your dumbest. Maybe take a second to educate yourself on the history of congressional subpoenas, executive privilege and separation of powers under the Constitution before making a wild claim that Bannon is in anyway relevant to Congress trying to subpoena information and testimony from actual government personnel and agencies, especially when it involves an ongoing prosecutions.

"...they are in a tough spot if the GOP controlled house issues subpoenas that end up ignored."

Aren't the very people who refused to honor subpoenas going to be issuing them? And they're going to have the gall to lecture others?!?

Not one of those called should answer any questions. They should show up and turn the tables and demand answers to questions about their involvement with the attempted coup, Especially that asshat from PA that Meadows burned all those documents after they talked.

Set the narrative with an orchestrated script and stick to it. Drive it home in front of all the American people. An "Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness. Have you no sense of decency?" moment repeated over and over for each of the GOP inquisitors.
