Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 10, 2023

House Republicans know George Santos is a problem. They're just not sure what to do about him yet. ... The GOP conference is now deliberating over how to handle a member who's been publicly ridiculed as a fraudster, including whether Santos should receive committee assignments. Some members are openly pushing to sideline him until internal investigations can dig through his campaign finances, and even basic biographical information.

He committed the only sin that a republican shall not commit.

He took advantage of rich people who aren't smart enough to wipe their own asses.

That is a bridge too far.

The only one.

In the absence of a recall election in his district, Santos has a job for the next two years. Dems don't have a voice loud enough to get GOPers to do anything and the GOP leadership needs every vote it can get, especially from a guy who knows he has to do all that he is told to keep his job. If there is a recall election Santos shouldn't count on any support from most of his new friends, except for members of the freak caucus, none of whom will be of any help (Jewish space lasers don't sell well in Rosalyn or Manhassett) ...

If the GOP allows him to remain in Congress then they should expect to have everyone in the country who has had to work for what they have reminded frequently of how the party has supported a total fraud collecting a $174,000 salary plus benefits plus any other profits that Santos' financial disclosures indicate he is gaining over the next two years.

I mean, they elected Dubya and then T***p, so this isn't really much of an issue with them, is it? They literally do not care who fits the suit, they just want to stay in power by any means necessary.

Shame on us all for allowing clowns like this to get elected.

Another member, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), told CBS on Sunday that it would be "very difficult to work with anyone who cannot be trusted." She acknowledged: "It is a problem."

As, come on, Nancy. Working with people who can't be trusted, whining about it, and then going back for more isn't "a problem." You've done it before, you're doing it now, and you.l do it again. Because that's what you do.

Local N.Y. GOP leaders to call on George Santos to resign
www.politico.com

...Nassau County Republican leaders will call on Rep. George Santos to resign Wednesday for fabricating his biography to win his congressional seat, three people with knowledge of the plans told POLITICO.

"They'll issue a rebuke of him for running as a complete liar in an effort to resuscitate the image of the party," said one person familiar with the pending announcement by Nassau County GOP Chair Joe Cairo and other Republican elected officials, speaking on condition of anonymity.

That person told POLITICO in an interview that the announcement is necessary to help Republicans win future elections in New York's 3rd congressional district, which is a swing seat formerly held by Democrat Tom Suozzi.

Santos has lied about everything from where he went to college to his Jewish ancestry. He's being investigated by local, state and federal authorities. ...

I'm assuming the House has the means to have him expelled. What kind of thresholds have to be met?

Google is your friend:
Article I, section 5 of the United States Constitution provides that "Each House [of Congress] may determine the Rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member." Since 1789 the Senate has expelled only 15 members.

2/3 majority required, so basically barring a concerted effort by the Republican party and/or Kevin McCarthy, his district is stuck with him. This is why you should research your candidates before you vote. Also, don't expect any action from Speaker Kevin as he has to get permission from the Chaos Caucus before he takes a dump and Santos seems a good fit with that bunch.

He's a republican. So there is no threshold of bad behavior he can cross that will make the party turn on him, even if he attempted a fascist coup, as we've seen.

The only thing you can do to get puninshed by republicans is tell the truth about their coke fueled orgies like madison cawthorne did.

McCarthy doesn't call for Santos to resign: The voters elected him to serve'
thehill.com

...House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Wednesday declined to call for Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) to resign over fabrications about his rsum and questions about his finances even as New York Republicans raised the pressure on the embattled first-term lawmaker.

"I try to stick by the Constitution. The voters elected him to serve. If there is a concern, and he has to go through the Ethics, let him move through that," McCarthy told reporters on Wednesday.

"He will continue to serve," McCarthy said of Santos.

McCarthy's comments mark his most substantive statements to date about Santos, weeks after the congressman admitted to misrepresenting his background....

McCarthy says embattled Rep. Santos should not be seated on top committees
www.nbcnews.com

...House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Wednesday that embattled freshman GOP Rep. George Santos, who is facing growing calls to resign after admitting to fabricating much of his personal biography, should not be seated on any top committees.

"No," McCarthy said emphatically as he headed into a GOP Steering Committee meeting where members are deciding which colleagues should serve on certain committees.

Although Democrats and some Republicans have said Santos should not receive any committee assignments at all, McCarthy confirmed later in the day that Santos would serve on at least one.

As speaker, McCarthy leads the influential Steering panel....

Sooner or later Santos is going to become an embarrassment to Speaker McCarthy or a threat to the House's slim majority ~ especially the threat of losing N.Y. 's 3rd congressional district in 2024 or perhaps even before if Santos is forced to resign and there's a special election.

You're not going to see any action from the Speaker until then. Right now, he's just taking the time to calculate his odds. He WILL look out for #1.
