"Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday urged Moderna not to quadruple the price of its Covid-19 vaccine once distribution of the shots moves to the commercial market.

In a letter to Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel, Sanders called the price increase "outrageous."

The independent senator from Vermont and incoming chair of the Senate's health committee said such a steep price increase would make the shots unavailable for millions of uninsured Americans, potentially putting their lives at risk as Covid continues to spread."

Moderna and other Pharmaceutical companies are among the most altruistic entities on the planet. They saved millions of lives the last 3 years. They would never misrepresent the efficacy or safety of their product---nor would any lawmaker allow them to.

In other news, it's a rude awaking how badly the ambient air tastes once that Big Corporation ---- is removed from the government mouth when it's no longer politically expedient to nurse on it.

Enjoy your myocarditis.

What should I say USA comrades? USA capitalism at its finest? Greed is a balance between good and bad in the USA.

#10 | Posted by wolfdog at 2023-01-12 11:32 AM | Reply

US Capitalism has nothing to do with this. Oh, you thought they gave every other country the vaccines for free or without a profit? The ONLY difference between the US and non-Capitalistic countries is that the government pays for all vaccines in those countries, so the high tax rates those countries already have can cover this (but could cause taxes to go even higher). In other words, Moderna, Pfizer, etc. are making billions off of EVERY country, it's just that since the price hits the American citizen directly, it gets a LOT more visibility. Which is a positive result of Capitalism, btw. I know Dems have a very difficult time seeing the big picture but, make no mistake, the people of every country are paying for it. Some, like American Dems, just think that if it isn't being charged to them directly that it means it's free using imaginary money and that nobody is profiting from any of it.

Can someone please tell me why private corporations get to set prices on products produced with public input and development?

These corporate bloodsuckers are the worst thing about American culture.

Our entire system has always been based on privatizing profits but subsidizing the costs of production and development.

The public at large has a stake too. Corporations are Super Citizens, with disproportionate influence over policy at every level.

They need to be Humbled, and weakened. They need to be regulated into irrelevance at the political level.

Congress is a wholly owned subsidiarity of the major corporations so that ain't happening.

Time to Revolute against the corporations.

Dolly Parton should demand her money back. Pretty sure she didn't donate to the development to make Moderna rich.

Also I thought high drug prices were justified by R&D and regulatory costs but the R&D was heavily subsidized by donations and government the regulatory rules were streamlined and they got 3 years of guaranteed profit off government purchases so what is the justification for the high price of the vaccine?

#15 | Posted by TaoWarrior at 2023-01-12 06:23 PM | Reply

Warrior has a point this is a vaccine and it is obscene that they make such a profit off of suffering when they're focus should remain keeping the price low enough that everybody on the planet can get vaccinated.

100%.

I also do not disagree with the premise that Ukraine has an arrangement with the super citizenry throwing weight against Russias super citizenry. Obviously once Russian troops pay stopped they began realizing Russia will always be "outgunned".

The world is held hostage in similar fashion by a "medical practice" of sheer greed over saving lives. We will forever be in their debt.

"Through its COVID-19 vaccine partnership with the U.S. government, Moderna picked up nearly $1 billion in research aid. Now, it's joining a list of other companies to take a supply order from the federal government."

F Moderna! Pay back the subsodies! Thieves!
