Yea, like if they remove it from the 'Congressional Record' it would be as if it never happened. And then they could condemn anyone describing Trump as being the "first twice-impeached president", calling them a lair.

"I would understand why members would want to bring that forward."

He has to say stuff like this because of the political tightrope he's currently on. It certainly doesn't sound like something he's eager to do or waste political capital on.

And they would do it with a straight face.

@#4 ... And they would do it with a straight face. ...

If the Republicans follow through with this action, they will be not only condoning, but encouraging, similar [let's say] very questionable behavior by a future US President.

In many respects, fmr Pres Trump's Presidency was unprecedented, and mostly not in a good way.

We need to prevent such actions in the future, not encourage them.

Oh, in all cases keep the second one where he was already out of office, as that was just hilarious.

FYI: If a federal official commits a crime or otherwise acts improperly, the House of Representatives may impeach"formally charge"that official. If the official subsequently is convicted in a Senate impeachment trial, he is removed from office.

Of course in both cases they were not impeachable offenses and the dems knew it [unless they really were so incompetent as not to know that] - they just wanted to go on record as having done it against Trump.

Based solely on votes in the Senate.

OK, I'm back.

(fwiw, the Linux OS upgrades seem to be so much more reliable and *quicker* than what Microsoft tries to do with Windows. But that may be a whole different thread. And I digress...)

Where was I?

Oh yeah, rewriting history.

Why do the republicans still want to give such a level of support to fmr Pres trump?

#21 | Posted by LampLighter at 2023-01-13 09:10 PM | Reply

This isn't the first time McCarthy has tried to keep his promise to Trump, one that the two of them concocted back in February 2020. Their strategy was to claim that the impeachment was a "hoax " and therefore not a legitiment cause of action.

House Res. 1131 was introduced on May 18, 2022 by Markwayne Mullins (R-OK) and co-sponsored by the usual suspects, to expunge the January 13,1021 impeachment of Donald Trump.

www.govinfo.gov

The last reported action on that Resolution was the same day it was introduced. It went nowhere.

So, here we go again . . . without precedent and certainly no constitutional support, McCarthy will try one more time to keep the promise he made to Trump back in February 2020.

As to be expected, in addition to the "hoax" claim, Trump also wants to link his impeachments to his failure to be re-elected so, therefore, once expunged, he should be re-instated.

For real. That the logic McCarthy will be using in Trump's latest attempt to de-legitimize the Biden Administration.

Now you know the rest of the story.

#22 | Posted by Twinpac at 2023-01-14 12:15 AM | Reply

sorry, typo. Should be "to expunge the January 13, *2021 impeachment of Donald Trump."

Both "impeachments" were illegitimate acts by a hyper-partisan Democrat congress.

As was the 1/6 clown show.

The democrat party has done more to damage the legitimacy of the US Government than any foreign entity could have ever hoped to do.

But I suspect that's been the plan all along.

1.) Undermine any semblance of national cohesion and decorum.

2.) Submit to a multi-national Global Order.

3.) Eat your bugs.

Why do you seem to be so reluctant to substantiate what you post?

Really, what are you so afraid of?

Trump's Impeachments May Be Irreversible as McCarthy Mulls Expunging
www.newsweek.com

...House Speaker Kevin McCarthy says he would consider reviving a proposal from hard-line Republicans in the last Congress to expunge one or both of Donald Trump's impeachments as one of the GOP's legislative priorities....

#27 | Posted by LampLighter at 2023-01-14 12:50 AM | Reply

What McCarthy is mulling is whether the House can expunge on its own (like a censure) . . . . or will it require another trial by the Senate.

If challenged, this may end up in the hands of the 9 constitutional brainiacs in the Supreme Court.

Step 1 ~ Get un-impeached

Step 2 ~ Take back the White House

Seriously, Redial, did you think Trump was ever going to quit?

No, his willingness to embarrass himself is extraordinary. That said, having been impeached twice is not an obstacle to the White House.

mccarthy can 'wave his magic wand' and declare tRump rehabilitated, but the fact is history won't care what mccarthy 'wishes'. I suspect that a republicon attempt to whitewash tRump's name would only please the magats, who already ignore facts. It would emphasize the 'priorities' of the republicons to avoid substance, and further erode their seriously damaged reputations.

What should happen to a president who threatens to withold foreign aid to a country unless they make up stories for him to use against his opponent in an election?

And then what should happen to a president who attempts a fascist coup?

If those things don't deserve impeachment, what does? Lying about a BJ? Being black? Wearing a tan suit?
