The mayor of New York traveled to the Mexican border city of El Paso on Sunday and declared that "there is no room in New York" for busloads of migrants being sent to America's most populous city.

Shouldn't he be in, uh, New York?

#1 Adams is trying to highlight the price tag NYC, and by extension NY state, pays for illegal immigrants:

"Adams's trip to El Paso comes after he said the migrant influx into New York could cost the city as much as $2 billion, at a time when the city is already facing a major budget shortfall."

He may also be trying to score political points ahead of a run for some higher office in the future. Hard to say, but the US needs a better national immigration policy than the one that currently exist and Adams visit underscores that the effects of the current inadequate policy are felt far from the US/Mexican border.

True of all communities accepting illegal immigrants, NY isn't special.

Agreed, Biden should be sending money, every year, for every illegal immigrant sent to their geography. They claim they are tracking them, so it should be pretty easy to do.

They can't legally work so what's the solution Biden is presenting? How are they to legally work and help rather than be a drain?

@#3 ... They can't legally work ...

That does not seem to stop companies from hiring them.

So, maybe they can work illegally, no? And that ability to work illegally may be the big part of the problem.

So, maybe a big part of the solution is to get companies to stop hiring those in the Country illegally?

Yesterday the Republicans say New York is a failed city due to housing prices.

Today they say there's plenty of room in New York City for immigrants.

"Biden should be sending money, every year, for every illegal immigrant sent to their geography."

Or he could pretend to build a big beautiful wall all the while grifting his rabid supporters and fleecing his own pockets and the pockets of his cohorts in crime.

You know.

Like the Previous Guy.

Judge expects Steve Bannon's wall fraud trial in Nov. 2023 (October 2022)
apnews.com

...Steve Bannon's trial on charges he defrauded donors who gave money to build a wall on the U.S. southern border might not happen until late next year, a judge said Tuesday.

Judge Juan Manuel Merchan said he anticipates Bannon, former President Donald Trump's longtime ally, will go to trial in November 2023 " about a year before the 2024 presidential election.

Manhattan prosecutors charged Bannon, 68, last month with state-level money laundering, fraud and conspiracy charges related to the "We Build the Wall" campaign. Bannon has pleaded not guilty.

The New York case stems from much of the same alleged conduct as a federal case cut short last year by a Trump presidential pardon.

Prosecutors say that Bannon falsely promised donors that all money would go to constructing a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border....

Just put them on a boat and send them back to Mexico. Best advice I can give them is to not have kids at USA taxpayer expense.

This has been an on going problem for Texas for years. One that the Biden administration has ignored. What NYC got was just a small taste of what's been happening down here. Texas has been footing the bill for a long time with no financial help from the government and it hasn't mattered until they started showing up in the sanctuary cities. The sanctuary cities are only getting a small taste of what comes over the border down here daily. NYC only got something like 64,000, a mere pittance compared to the 2+ million that's been coming over the border down here.

No help from the government?!?

Based on what kind of math?

Trump threw Texas to the wolves when he lied about Mexico paying for "The Wall" which he touted would solve the immigration problem.

We feel bad that Texas took the brunt of what was only a campaign slogan but blame your governor for taking the word of a compulsive liar.

More politicians than just President Biden are responsible for and need to address this problem:

One of the main frustrations Adams has voiced is that migrants arriving in New York City can't legally work because of a federal law that prevents them from obtaining work permits until after their asylum applications have been pending for several months. While he has asked the federal government to lift that requirement, it can only be changed by Congress, which has not passed a major immigration law since the 1990s.

In his remarks Sunday, Adams acknowledged that only Congress can offer a long-term plan to manage migration along the southern border. "Real, true immigration reform is going to come through the Senate, Congress and the White House," he said.

Does this mean NY is no longer a sanctuary city?

Southern states should keep sending them anyways.

It is unfortunate that border cities have used migrants as tools to make a point but they have and the point has been made. The federal government has to step up its efforts to resettle migrants and not leave it solely up to border cities/states to deal with the problem of housing and caring for migrants.

Set up migrant centers (ala Ellis Island) in sparsely populated areas in multiple states to receive migrants. Adorn the entrances of each of these centers with a mini Statue of Liberty! Once they arrive at the center, all of their immediate needs (i.e. food, clothing, shelter, medical attention) would be met. That would immediately be followed by a legal review of their right to be here. If not permitted to stay, they would immediately be deported to their home country (or Mexico if their home country wouldn't accept them). If allowed to stay, they would be turned over to a sponsor/organization willing and able to help them resettle. If there is no sponsor/organization willing to accept them after x months in the center, they will be deported.

A stipend would be paid to the sponsor/organization for each migrant they help resettle. This time limited stipend would expire after x months or when the migrant found a self sustaining job; whichever comes first. If the migrant is not self-sustaining after x months and the sponsor/organization is unwilling to support them, the migrant would be deported.

If a migrant is self-sustaining for x years, they will be given a green card and allowed to permanently stay in the US.

Sponsors/Organizations would be evaluated on their ability to help migrants resettle. If they are good at it, they will be kept in the program and maybe given a bonus depending on their success rate; if not, they will be dropped.

Reading this it makes me wonder what your experience with companies that have illegals working at them is. Mine isn't one where it's a conspiracy to round up illegal ag labor. It's urbanized illegal immigration and operates without conspiracy at the top.

While there are always a small % of bad apples, if a car dealership has illegals it's because they're working their under a stolen social security #. It gets flagged eventually, 6 months or so into using it. The owner doesn't know, they can't even speak spanish. They mostly work in the "Make Ready" department which is just a car wash in the dealership that also attaches minor accessories, brought in by friends and family. The Make Ready manager may or may not know, but if the social comes back good initially they've done their due diligence.

The "conspiracy" at the top is Republican opposition to a National ID.

Republicans also oppose National ID because it would nullify their Voter ID requirements by giving all citizens an easy way to get free valid ID good in all 50 states.

Don't act like both parties are the same on this.

The "pro-business" party is the pro illegal immigrants in the labor force party.
