Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, January 18, 2023

Republican Representative Rick Allen of Georgia defended his position on raising the age when seniors can receive Social Security by saying people want to work longer. Advocacy group Social Security Works posted a video of Mr Allen walking through the tunnels of the House of Representatives where he was asked about why he wants to raise the age of retirement. "You know, that's interesting that you ask that question," he said. "People come up to me, they actually want to work longer."

He's lying? Some people do want to work longer. Not everyone, of course.

And I'm sure people have said "I want to work longer".

I might want to work longer. Of course, I don't want to be forced to wait longer before receiving SS.

Find something real to cry about.

So work longer.

Why do I have to take a penalty on taking my retirement at 65 because you, personally feel like working longer?

So, #3, in the new law that is going to make it so I only get half of my retirement if I dip out at 65 will there be requirements for employers to have to keep people on past the age of 65?

Our government isn't serious enough to address the spending trajectory of SS and Medicare.

Democrats will propose an increased spending solution. Republicans will propose a decreased spending solution. Neither side will compromise on spending cuts or tax increases and nothing will get done.

"Democrats will propose an increased spending solution. Republicans will propose a decreased spending solution."

The Democrat proposal satisfies the promises America made to workers who pay Social Security.

The Republican proposal satisfies the promises Republicans made to lower taxes on the wealthy.

It's an easy call, for both Republicans and Democrats!

Since Rick Allen seems to think that folk want to work longer, perhaps as a leader he should set the example before attempting to make a law. How about starting with 80 hour work weeks Rick? Surely what's good for the public is good for politicians.

You don't realize it but there are people who really enjoy working.

I am looking forward to working but not the purpose of paying for college and cars and private school and other expensive ---- 3 kids cost.

Just work for the fun of it........

And you also might not realize there is a thing called work ethic.

Now, I don't think we should be forcing anybody to work longer than we currently do.

I was merely pointing out it's not a lie that some people (again, folks who enjoy their profession and have a work ethic...Clown will remain confused about that) DO want to work longer.

The Repubs can say what they will about cutting Social Security but there is one thing they best remember. Seniors vote and they vote pretty much consistently. I've heard a lot of stories about how difficult it is to make it on SS. When they tee off those seniors, they can pretty much wipe out them voting republican. Without those votes it's going to be tough to remain in office.

Kevin McCarthy Says Republicans Will 'Protect' Social Security. What's That Mean?
www.huffpost.com

...Some Republicans have said that once they controlled the House of Representatives, they would try to balance the federal budget partly by cutting Medicare and Social Security.

But at the first press conference in his new role, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) could offer no details about their plans for the popular retirement programs this week.

"One thing I will tell you, as Republicans, we will always protect Medicare and Social Security," McCarthy said in response to a question from HuffPost on Thursday. "We will protect them for the next generation going forward. But we are going to scrutinize every single dollar spent."

Everybody in Washington wants to "protect" or "strengthen" Medicare and Social Security; it's a perfectly anodyne statement that a member of any party could utter at any time without thinking.

McCarthy's answer suggests that Republicans have no plan yet and that his biggest challenge will be trying to get his fractious caucus -- which only elected him leader on the 15th ballot -- to settle on a unified list of demands....

1) why do you think the concerns expressed here are funny? ALL-CAPS funny?

2) how do you know who is or is not "really worried?" Have you developed some sort of ESP to see into peoples' minds and know what they are thinking?
