Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, January 27, 2023

OK, instead of the usual open playlists, maybe something different... Post tunes of bands you have seen live. The video does not have to be a video from the concert you saw (the vid could even be the studio version), but note the date and place of the concert you attended when you saw the band perform that song.

Essentially... What bands have you seen perform live?

Whoa.

Rumble (instrumental)
en.wikipedia.org(instrumental)

...It was banned in several US radio markets, because the term 'rumble' was a slang term for a gang fight, and it was feared that the piece's harsh sound glorified juvenile delinquency.[5] The record is the only instrumental single ever banned from radio in the United States.[7][8]...

Thanks for that.

Ya know, it brings to mind, maybe another sub-theme for this thread this evening...

Songs that have been banned from the radio, or have had their lyrics changed in tunes.

Thanks!

Another, more recent song that has had issues with radio air-play...

James - Laid
www.youtube.com

There's a WikiPedia page that lists the radio stations that play the unadulterated version of the song...

Laid (song)
en.wikipedia.org(song)

...Today, a number of alternative rock stations, including Boston's RadioBDC, WBOS, Maryland's WRNR-FM, Chicago's WXRT, Missoula's KDTR-FM, Philadelphia's WRFF and suburban New York City's WXPK will play "Laid" with the original controversial line. ...

Another...

From 1977...

Jet Airliner - Threshold - Steve Miller Band -1977
www.youtube.com

That version has the original lyrics.

When the song was played on the radio, the word "---" is replaced with "stuff."

fwiw, the radio station i currently listen to and enjoy ( www.1071thepeak.com ) has played that song with that censored-by-some word proudly sung.

I guess that is the Libertarian side of me. :)

Weirdest concert I attended had Ted Nugent as the opener, Brian Auger and the Oblivion Express as the 2nd act, and the headliner was Elvin Bishop (Fooled around and fell in love version)
1/3 cut down Pauley Pavillion. (there was a curtain hiding the rest of the arena)
Nugent's first album was about to drop.
Elvin grabbed a full bottle of Jack from a fan and chugged it.
Woof.

Gloria was a a song produced in '64 by 'THEM' {Van Morrison was one of the group's members} .... a number of years later Jim Morrison did a version [dirty] putting his own 'stamp' on the song in his unique style of performance:

If the fan was in the front row or two, then it could have been a plant with fake whiskey, for effect.

Concerts are a show, complete with props.

If you'd have seen Elvin's blood-shot eyes, you'd know better. He was toasted like a marshmellow.

OK, I'll say, in this case, it was not a prop.

Bluesman Elvin Bishop stays true to his musical roots (2016)
ottawacitizen.com

...Another thing Bishop and Musselwhite have in common is alcohol.

"We are the two guys in the world that nobody thought would quit drinking. We got our money's worth."

But Bishop doesn't blame the life of the musician for his addiction. ...

btw, that is an excellent article about Mr Bishop, worth a read, imo.

More from the article...

...There is a song called Old School on Elvin Bishop's last album Can't Even Do Wrong Right.
Article content

The song contains lines such as: "If you want to talk to me, call me on the phone."

That line and the song title sum up Bishop. The highly regarded guitarist, who is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his membership in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, remains true to his musical roots in the blues. ...

Good stuff.

And thanks again for the follow-up.
