A Times analysis found that officers gave dozens of contradictory and unachievable orders to Mr. Nichols. The punishment was severe -- and eventually fatal.

Cops are out of control. It's their training to take control of every situation, no matter the consequences. "Pig" has been a verb for a long time.

I'll agree with that. But something they aren't saying is that Tyre HAD knowledge of many orders before the event...like not committing crimes, listening to what cops say, etc. So, since he ignored those well-established, 100% applicable to everyone orders, why would anyone think he'd follow any other orders? But, once again, Libs will make this guy out to be a saint as if half of the problem doesn't exist. And while they are busy trying to fix the other half of the problem, ignoring the half that has to do with personal responsibility will ensure whatever solutions Dems come up with are not effective.

"The Supreme Court has ruled that people do not have to obey unlawful commands by the police."

This is true of anything. The problem always comes in when someone realizes that nothing the cops asked the guy to do were unlawful. And since, to Liberals, anything that doesn't meet their narrative is considered unlawful, the fight you are trying to start is already a losing battle.

^
It's their training to escalate every situation so they can justify use of violence.

What happened to Mr. Nichols was premeditated.
It's literally what they are trained to do.

Why issue orders if you don't think they will be followed?
So you can beat someone to death.
Thanks for explaining that.

Attaboy USA comrades! Heard the latest in the Nichol's case? The ambulance drivers fired and more police fired? It's USA capitalism at its finest! The USA must show the world that it's not discrimination against Blacks. Instead it's the profession -- police and ambulance drivers. Yes! Fire them all! We of the far left just love this. How about our recommendation? How about firing the police captain of Memphis along with the Mayor and ambulance driver head management? Fall on the sword for inept management and take responsibility!

gave dozens of contradictory and unachievable orders to Mr. Nichols.

When you realize the goal was to beat the ever loving crap out of him, these orders make perfect sense.

Him dying was just an unfortunate result for them. But they wanted to beat the crap out of him and were too stupid to visualize that in doing so they might actually kill him and end up in jail themselves.

It's not "no matter the consequences". It's "specifically because of the consequences of not doing it". There are decades of institutional knowledge going into police training.

Sitzkrieg:

I've said it before I'll say it again.

Police didn't decide to start misbehaving when someone invented cell phones with cameras and microphones. Police misconduct is not a new thing. That would not make any sense.

Instead what's happening is that misconduct, excessive force, lack of respect for rights and general corruption and misbehaviour have been a part of the police culture for so long that it's become impossible to separate it out. The addition of a camera in everyone's pocket just means it's in your face all the time mow.

What you see in this video is the sum product of police training to control a suspect and force compliancy.

We've had this conversation occasionally when cops shoot somebody. I point out the alternative to shooting them is what's going on in this video. Nobody likes that answer but nobody has a better one.

If anything the police abuse has dropped since cellphones and body cams went into use.

Case in point. Very much proves me right beyond any doubt. Instead of constructive dialogue, it's all about name-calling and being mean to those you don't agree with, amirite?

Why does every conservative that shows up here think he's as intelligent as, and as of deserving (debatable) of respect afforded William F. Buckley? If you show up on your hind legs and start yapping incomprehensible or easily refutable nonsense, why should one be surprised they're not treated as a good faith debater on a subject? And why would you go out of your way to defend someone like that?

And all they had to do was detain him since he was refusing ALL the orders given to him. They had him on the ground and pepper sprayed him. He was completely incapacitated, barely able to stand and they stood him up anyways just so another cop could come in a give him some haymakers. Obviously, they didn't believe that was enough. It's perfectly okay for you to admit that the police went over the line in this case.

Without the body cam video from this Memphis event, an entirely different story may have been told...

Police statements tell the first version of an incident. Then video footage comes out
www.npr.org

...In the days since Tennessee officials released video footage of Memphis police officers brutally beating Tyre Nichols, law enforcement has faced a new wave of criticism.

Some of it has focused on how authorities initially described the incident " and what the videos actually show.

According to a statement from the Memphis Police Department the day after Nichols was beaten, officers pulled over a suspect on suspicion of reckless driving and "a confrontation occurred." The suspect fled, police followed and "another confrontation occurred."

(The statement notes that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was looking into the stop "due to the suspect's condition.")

Video footage released Friday, taken from officers' body cameras and a street surveillance camera, shows a different story. In the videos, police quickly yank Nichols from his car, shout obscenities and threats, and then pepper spray him. Nichols flees, and when police finally catch him a second time, officers kick him, hit him with a baton and repeatedly punch him in the head while he's being restrained.

For some, the discrepancy between the initial police statement and what was captured on video brought to mind previous instances in which law enforcement's initial statement about a violent encounter was vague, misleading or false....

#22 | POSTED BY SITZKRIEG

Problem is that more often than not "noncompliance" is little more than "I'm reflexively fight back because my survival instinct is kicking in from the four cops sitting on my back and beating me because they're power tripping -------- who think they're owed respect for simply existing."

Far too often "resisting arrest" is shown to be "I don't like pain and oxygen deprivation."

I got arrested once by some undercover cops. They were charging at me from out of nowhere and I had no idea who TF they were or what they wanted. It wasn't until the last second before I was about to run for it that one of them pulled out his badge. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I didn't notice that and tried to get away.
