Suddenly the GQP don't want to pay for the spending incurred under the deranged orange hobo.
Even though they raised it numerous times under his presidency with barely a peep.

They have orders from Putin.

In today's political world, words are just vibrations in the air, and signify nothing. You either are part of the Republican Party gang, or you and yours are the enemy and are to be ridiculed and shunned. The real demands of the Republican Party are to take away from the poor and give to the rich, doesn't matter what you are talking about, it is about returning us to the 1950's, when health care for the poor was seen as socialism, food stamps as...socialism, housing assistance as...

I'll write it again: the GOP must be willing to rescind their Trump tax cuts if they want to see immediate cuts in spending. Otherwise, this is just public onanism on the part of the Repub caucus in the House...

"Suddenly the GQP don't want to pay for the spending incurred under the deranged orange hobo."
Actually, they do want to pay for it but NOT by raising the debt ceiling.
They want seniors, medically needy and the poor and disabled to pay the bill by cutting social benefits to the bone, especially, Social Security and Medicare plus assisted living facilities such as HUD, and so on.
President Biden has already said, forget about it! Ain't gonna happen!

"couple of comments about spending under trump."
Because the bill coming due, in sizable part (28%), was amassed by Trump. www.propublica.org
Will the GOP at least raise the ceiling enough to cover THAT?

but I don't want to even imagine the uproar and BS going on if 45 had not spend money for covid relief. but that's okay. When you get your "tax bill" in 2024, you and the others will find out the truth.
pleasant afternoon.

I've literally been in hundreds of negotiations over my career. I have never encountered a situation where the other side wasn't willing to state what they wanted. Never. Even the concept is mind-boggling.
Too bad Biden doesn't have an NLRB to reign in chickenschitts who won't negotiate in good faith.

I personally believe that once we cut through all the rhetoric and the other --------, most GOP Congresspeople feel it is their job to do NOTHING other than create roadblocks for the Democrats, and to help the richest people in our society make more money.

Because it is Social Security and Medicare. And the emotional little conservative snowflakes don't actually want to cut that (because most of them are reliant on it, no longer actual productive members of society). So they just scream and whine about "the debt" to drum up outrage without actually committing to any solutions.

LOL this idiot doesn't think the GOP has loads of pork in spending bills.
There's a reason they vote yes then act all concerned about the cost later.
Their constituents want their cut if the pie while cutting someone else's.

" if dems take their garbage pork out of any spending bill."
Every time Dems want new spending, Republicans demand spending cuts elsewhere. Offsets.
Meanwhile, when Republicans passed Trump's $2.3 Trillion giveaway, they offered (...checks notes)...ZERO offsets.
Which reminds me: Since Republicans updated the tax code making the corporate tax cuts permanent...that $2.3 Trillion cost will need to be updated until repealed.
Do I hear $3 Trillion?
#30 | Posted by Danforth at 2023-02-03 05:44 PM | Reply
Tax cuts are spending bills, when you're running a deficit budget.
Based on the equation, Trump's $2.3+ Trillion tax giveaway is all based on newly borrowed money.

Maybe gov should learn to only spend what they take in. But you can't have an all encompassing welfare state with responsible government spending. So responsibility goes out the window

"Maybe gov should learn to only spend what they take in"
WTF does that have to do with cutting revenue while running a deficit budget?
And for extra points: when, exactly, did America's fiscal sights change from surpluses to deficits?

"you can't have an all encompassing welfare state with responsible government spending."
No one is asking for an all-encompassing welfare state. But borrowing an additional 10% of all the debt we'd rung up since 1776 to give away in tax cuts to the world's wealthiest was a bad idea.
No doubt, you didn't make a peep about THAT government spending.

The U.S. Government doesn't actually own any money, not even the money they borrow. It belongs to us, the taxpayers who contribute a percentage of their income who trusts them to use it wisely and in the best interest of this country.
Trump was a thief. He borrowed a ton of money in our name and used it for personal gain.
More simply put, Trump is a thief. The Republican Party is a thief. They borrowed a ton of money on our credit card, for Trump's personal use, and now they don't want to pay the bill.
As far as I'm concerned, the Republican Party bought him, they own him ~ as well as all debt he ran up while he was in office. Now the Piper has come calling for his money. As usual, The Republican party is trying to lay it off on someone else.
We all know that borrowed money was used as payback to Trump's oligarchy friends who paid for his trip to the White House. They got what they paid for (without a sunset clause). The debt belongs to those who reaped the benefits.
Now pay up, deadbeats!

Tax cuts aren't government spending you dolt. Government spending is government spending. If you like the idea that NOT giving the government your earnings is "costing government" perhaps you should put your money where your logic is and send government every penny you earn, because you're costing the government what you don't send them.

You just complained upthread about deficit budgets. Meanwhile, you were silent when Trump gave away $2.3 Trillion of what otherwise would've been tax revenue. If you don't understand giving away tax cuts while running deficits has the EXACT SAME effect on the bottom line as spending, take a class and educate yourself.

The capitalist hell holes I worked in -- in the plutocrat run USA -- made me favor Communism. I had to live with rusty pipes and clean toilets as the rich enjoyed their cruises, gold plumbing fixtures, expensive new cars, and Sturgeon eggs. Remember Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette? There is much rumbling in the Inner Cities. With the enormous over $31 trillion in debt, people are increasingly upset. Expect Republicans to slash and burn your favorite programs. They won't increase taxes on the rich, and you at the bottom of the economic totem pole will suffer great.
#41 | Posted by wolfdog at 2023-02-04 11:31 AM | Reply
I never once said anything about a deficit, I said they should spend only what they take in. When they don't, you get 31 trillion in government debt because of pork barrel spending and welfare/warfare state nonsense. Morons like you don't care at all about government spending, the debt ceiling or anything else, if it were up to you, the government would be 100 trillion in debt already and nanny stating everyone from cradle to grave. The IRS should be abolished, and about 80% of what the federal government does should be eliminated, they should guard the border and provide real national defense that isn't spread across the globe, and that's about it.
