"To be made a saint in-a the catholic church, you have to have-a four miracles. That's-a the rules, you know. It's-a always been that-a. Four miracles, and-a to prove it. Well, this-a Mother Seton-now they could only prove-a three miracles. But the Pope-he just waved the fourth one. He just waved it! And do you know why? It's-a because she was American. It's all-a politics. We got-a some Italian-a people, they got-a forty, fifty, sixty miracles to their name. They can't-a get in just cause they say there's already too many Italian saints, and this woman comes along with-a three lousy miracles. I understand that-a two of them was-a card tricks."

The early 1970's, including 1973, was a treasure for rock music. The variety of sub-genre within "rock" was large, and inspiring to future musicians.

Unfortunately, that seemed to die out by the mid 70's, leading to the musically-dead disco fad of the later 70's.

Fortunately, the late 70's seemed to have seen the birth of "punk," and the early 80s resulted in "new-wave." Both of which have placed their stamp upon subsequent music.

Something from 1983 of no particular relevance to this discussion... :)

Why 1973 was the greatest year in rock history

1973 was the high water mark of the explosion that started in the late 60s " the culmination of five years of classic rock music, boundary (and guitar) smashing " rock music's peak, if you will, with heights that would rarely be reached again, and certainly not as frequently.

That's an interesting tune.

Journey (Kingdom Come album)
en.wikipedia.org(Kingdom_Come_album)

...The album was the first album in history to use a drum machine responsible for all the percussive sounds on the album. The drum machine in question was the Bentley Rhythm Ace, manufactured by Ace Tone. Although the band had commented the album was entirely based on the drum machine, the band attempted to, in rock and electronic terms, create an album that was the closest they could get "to a string quartet". The album features other experimental techniques, including using a triangle to guide guitar playing and extensive use of Mellotron and synthesizers from new member Victor Peraino, who replaced Michael "Goodge" Harris early on production. ...

Cool tune, btw.

Apologies.

When Sugar, Sugar by the Archies" hit the radio in 1969... I was pretty sure the music had died. (see American Pie by Don McLean from '71)

Fortunately there were still a few more good years, including '73.

It's kinda cool that the music from those days is more popular among today's kids than most of today's music.

@#13 ... It's kinda cool that the music from those days is more popular among today's kids than most of today's music ...

Curious that you mention that.

On Labor Day in 2021 I was at a friend's backyard BBQ.

There I was talking with their son (who I have known since he was a toddler, and was then and still is a teenager) about music. I asked him what music groups he likes.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. All the groups he listed were 70's groups. I asked him about that, and he said something along the lines of, ~the 70's music was great. Today's music seems artificial.~

OK, that's one teen. But wow, I was surprised at the answer.

Oh, it's definitely a thing:

Is Old Music Killing New Music?
Old songs now represent 70 percent of the U.S. music market. Even worse: The new-music market is actually shrinking.

www.theatlantic.com

Even a couple of decades ago when my daughter was in high school, I was surprised that they were listening to Led Zeppelin, CSNY, and a lot of other such music.

Judy Blue Eyes, one of my all time favs, was particular popular as I recall.

My daughter was in elementary school in early 90's, and we both rocked out to
Sweet Child of Mine and Losing My Religion, lol.
