Even ChatGPT's creators can't figure out why it won't answer certain questions -- including queries about former U.S. President Donald Trump, according to people who work at creator OpenAI.

What do partisans think ChatGPT has a political bias? Are they right?

Partisans may think ChatGPT has a political bias because it is an AI system that has been trained on large amounts of text data, which could contain political content. It is possible that the system could acquire some bias from the data it is trained on. However, the extent to which this is true is difficult to measure. Ultimately, it is up to the user to determine whether or not they think ChatGPT has a political bias.

Why do partisans think ChatGPT has a political bias? Are they right?

Partisans may think ChatGPT has a political bias because the artificial intelligence technology it uses is trained on large datasets that may contain language associated with a particular political perspective. While it is possible that the language used in the datasets could lead to a bias, ChatGPT does not have a political bias as such. Instead, it is designed to generate neutral, unbiased responses from the data it is provided.

...it is designed to generate neutral, unbiased responses from the data it is provided.

A design intent to be neutral and unbiased is itself a bias i.e. a bias towards false equivalency. Ideally, ChatGPT would be "smart" enough to discern the truth from the voluminous amount of information that it ingests.

Really putting too much weight into a chat bot.

Yep, that's all there is.

Kinda bored with all the hoopla around chatbots and drawing algos (like DALL-E) and search engines pretending to be some kind of "generative" AI (latest buzzword for VC / academia money) - here's one you might get a kick out of:

www.thedailybeast.com - "ChatGPT Keeps Imploding Because of Crochet. (Seriously.)"

Apparently, among other things, "There is an entire 'language' that ChatGPT is simply not very good at: math."

Maybe, they should try Excel "AI" or APL - they've very good at math (manipulating numbers and formulas algos) for a long time.

Ah, not so fast. I asked ChatGPT to write a couple of paragraphs of oppositional research on Trump, and it did a pretty good job:
Donald John Trump, the 45th President of the United States, has a controversial political career marked by numerous scandals and unethical behavior. During his time in office, he faced multiple allegations of sexual assault, abuse of power, and corruption. He also faced numerous legal battles, including a highly publicized investigation into his ties with Russia and an impeachment trial, which resulted in him being the first U.S. President to be impeached twice.

Furthermore, his divisive and inflammatory rhetoric has caused significant harm to marginalized communities, including minorities and immigrants. He has consistently demonstrated a lack of respect for democratic institutions, including the judiciary and the press, and has been criticized for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in over 500,000 deaths in the U.S. alone. He also has a history of making false statements, including spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories, which has further eroded the public's trust in him and the political process.

Google invests almost $400 million in ChatGPT rival Anthropic, which is testing a rival to OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The deal marks the latest alliance between a tech giant and an AI startup as the field of generative AI " technology that can generate text and art in seconds " heats up. "AI has evolved from academic research to become one of the biggest drivers of technological change, creating new opportunities for growth and improved services across all industries," said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.

Founded in 2021 by former leaders of OpenAI, including siblings Daniela and Dario Amodei, Anthropic AI in January released a limited test of a new chatbot named Claude to rival to OpenAI's wildly popular ChatGPT.

Anthropic's language model assistant, Claude, hasn't been released to the public, but the startup said it planned to expand access to the chatbot "in the coming months."

Ever since OpenAI's viral chatbot was unveiled late last year, detractors have lined up to flag potential misuse of ChatGPT by email scammers, bots, stalkers and hackers.

Yep. "There is gold in them thar 'AI's..."

Okay this is weird. Not three hours ago it gave me two paragraphs of oppositional research on Donald Trump. Now it refused to be negative toward anyone, including him, and me.
Someone told it to mind its manners.

Not talking about Trump is a sign of true intelligence.
