Are they going to criminalize the catholic church as well?
Otherwise they're just codifying hate.
Which, let's be honest, is all republicans have. Is their hated.

Umm women wear men's clothing, like ALL THE TIME. That is to be criminalized? Though I would have liked to have that girl who stole my hoodie back in college.
What about kilts? Kilts are like skirts basically. How does one tell a legal kilt from an illegal skirt?
What about men wearing thong bikini bottoms, they sort of LOOK like women's bikini bottoms.
What about the daily church services where men wear awfully feminine robes?
What about really obese men who wear moomoos-ever see that photo of Marlon Brando in The Island of Doctor Moreau?
And what about movies? Tyler Perry AND MANY OTHERS have made a living out of switching gender roles?
Almost like this hateful move is stupid.

FTA: "Legislators ensured this applies to LGBTQ+ events and spaces by banning drag performances, which they vaguely define as male or female impersonators'."
Can you explain how A Medea Family Funeral doesn't fall under this category?
How about if Jaye McBride wants to perform in Nashville?
How about Schindler's List or Boardwalk Empire-both of which have female characters that dress as men and perform? Again "banning drag performances, which they vaguely define as male or female impersonators'."
Of course, I know WHY it is happening, it is the political weaponization of hate. But you proudly support it, so there you have it.

Boaz,
Are you going full on "hair on fire" over drag queens reading stories to children? How many public strip shows are there in TN? Is there any degree of difference between a man in a dress reading stories to children (whose parents bring them to the performance) and a woman stripping on a street corner in Nashville?
Are you old enough to remember Uncle Milty? How about Bugs Bunny? Hell at one point or another most black and white era male movie stars ended up in a dress, it was a running gag.
Its amazing we survived.
Would a woman in a tux singing in public, say Lady Gaga, be in violation of this edict? How many items of non-gender approved clothing would cause a performance to become cross-dressing? Who is responsible to maintain a list of approved gender specific clothing?
This is nothing more than conservatives winding up the base so that they do not notice that the party is attempting to destroy social security and further reduce the tax burden on the wealthy by using payroll taxes to replace income/estate taxes.
Never trust a conservative, they only tell the truth if it serves their self-interest better than a lie.

When conservatives attack drag shows they are simply pandering to their most ignorant homophobic base. I don't have any respect for anyone who supports this action typical of Nazis. Get out your Nazi armbands and be proud of who and what you are. Youn't normal if you think this is an issue that presents any threat to society. But het, better mske sure mass shooters can get all the guns they want.

Years ago I posted I believe the day will come when transgendered people will rue the day gay rights advocates became their voice.
It's been a steady march to the gutter.
Common drag queens are not transgender and any attempt to blend any perceived "rights" is only going to hurt the people who genuinely have altered their lifestyle to meet a genuine need.
Sad really. I have been accused of not caring about gay rights. Perhaps I'm just more concerned about the people involved and don't want to see gays be played for political purposes.

Bill you do hate gay rights. Every post you make reinforces it. I'm not a psychologist but based on your history I would venture it has to do with you not accepting yourself.

Byrd,
There's truth to your statement but that doesn't make me anti-gay.
It's a personal issue not an overall dislike of gay people.
I will say I disapprove of the promiscuous and uncommitted sexual nature of much of the gay culture. I feel sorry for the good decent people who happen to be gay and find themselves wishing for something more stable and permanent but its always elusive.
I am not a closeted man who has denied themselves the opportunity to be with men. I went through enough relationships I found I was being depleted and needing to be loved and have someone to love.
A life full of being rejected by your family, straight men who are uncomfortable with the issue and gays who just want short relationships takes it toll on people.
What's there to praise about being gay? All this pride talk sounds to me a front to white wash the pain.
I don't like facades, pretense and lies.
No..I'll likely never fully integrate my gay self but that's my decision and frankly my choice.

Absolute brain slurry. Funny how this "logic" doesn't seem to apply to gun "rights;" apparently a five year old's right to not have their skull vaporized by an AR-15 doesn't stop microdicks from unfettered participation in their obsessive compensation hobby.
Most "rights-based" objections to serving or otherwise acknowledging gays are merely people pretending their religion gives them the right to be a bigoted POS.

People know it's creepy when you add in children. Just because it's happened before doesnt mean it's any more right.

Should we ban all priests, doctors, and politicians when a few do similarly bad things? Let's ban churches, hospitals/doctors' offices, and Congress. That's what you are doing here.
How about this? If you want to protect children which I think is your main goal, make it that people under 18 can't attend unless with a parent.

Maybe making up some standards as to the attire performer can wear, so it's not so sexually suggestive in nature.

Well I absolutely agree that in public - you have to have certain rules. But once we get by that, why wouldn't you let a parent make the call on their own child for this type of performance?
And do we both agree that performances in non public places - those which wouldn't offend innocent bystanders for lack of a beter word - there's no ban of any sort needed.

If one can define a male or female by their dress and a skirt is female attire, then a kilt is female and the scots are all female impersonators.

Drag shows aren't considered to be adult entertainment per day. The banning of such by the local government violates the rights of others in said community. It's not banning something inherently bad for people not people under the age of the majority.

The only change in the language and what I pulled from the article tied to this thread is this:
"could be viewed by a person who is not an adult."
In most states a minor can not go into a strip club (for example) even in the presence of a parent or guardian. Some states won't let any minor into a bar at all - must be legal drinking age.
These statutes are not controversial or unusual.

"The banning of such by the local government violates the rights of others in said community."
No, it really doesn't. It goes hand in hand with winning elections and that neat little thing we call Democracy.
Further, this isn't even a ban. This law places some restrictions on where (the statute isn't limited to drag shows, BTW) these performances can be held and that minors cannot be present.

But he's sure if he did he'd hate it.
Liberals have made America too equal.
He yearns for the days when only white men would be allowed in public.

You'd have to first show how this ditches the 1st Amendment
DeSantis could teach you how to ditch the first amendment.
He's already eliminated it in Florida.

This is sure one dumb hill to die on, tinkerbell

No, it really doesn't. It goes hand in hand with winning elections and that neat little thing we call Democracy. Further, this isn't even a ban. This law places some restrictions on where (the statute isn't limited to drag shows, BTW) these performances can be held and that minors cannot be present.

You're just such a fraudster and huckster. You're for tyranny of the majority over the minority. That's usually forbidden in this country.

This is not tyranny of the majority over the minority. Drag shows in TN are having some restrictions as to where the performances can be held and minors cannot attend. They are not being banned.

" Drag shows ... "
Isn't it simply dressing in drag?
" ... some restrictions as to where the performances can be held and minors cannot attend. They are not being banned."
Now do trans women.

In Tennessee, first, second, and third [driving under the influence] convictions are all considered misdemeanors. www.bbfpc.com
So a single offense under the thread's related statute gets you a felony in Tennessee. But it takes 4 DUIs to get a similar conviction.
They're equating someone performing a drag show within eyesight of a minor with someone getting their 4th DUI.
Let that sink in, BOAZ.

I was wrong, made a mistake:
Establishes that a second or subsequent such offense is a Class E felony. Effective April 1, 2023. #80 | POSTED BY TRUTHHURTS
It takes a second offense of performing in a drag show in that's within eyesight of a minor for it to be a felony.
You get three chances to avoid a felony DUI, only get one chance to avoid feliny drag peformance.
Context of my previous post remains, just not as significant.
Again, let that sink in BOAZ.

It's called federation and autonomous and sovereign states. POSTED BY BOAZ
That was under the Articles of Confederation, which was replaced by a thing called the Constitution of the United States of America. Maybe you've heard of it. They wrote it to create a stronger Central Government, since the states were unreliable in terms of taxes and interstate commerce and stuff. They made the Federal government sovereign over the states on purpose and the Constitution the Supreme Law of the land (other than ratified treaties).
Wait... didn't you swear an oath to support and defend that thing?
Does that include understanding what it means?

I also love how these folks are ready to defend the 2nd Amendment with their lives (or so they claim), but the 1st amendment (clothing can be considered "speech" under certain circumstances) can be dismissed if they don't like it. They "love freedom" unless someone using their freedom does something they don't like.

I'm all for keeping adult entertainment away from kids. I've been to strip clubs. I've seen a few drag shows. They're not the same thing. I shouldn't have to describe strip clubs. Drag shows are more of a parade, costume contest, or dance revue. I don't recall seeing anyone getting naked at a drag show. I don't see how the law in the article passes a 1st Amendment test.

There's this one, in the first frame a guy asks "what does your product do?
2nd frame is a guy giving an answer.
3rd frame is the guy from the first frame and he says something like "why didn't you just say 'no'?"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA AHAHAHA, right?

Just imagine spending the twilight of your life worrying about whether a person in a dress has a wiener swing in between your legs or not and wanting them charged with a felony if they do.
Or maybe your wife is like "honey, let's watch a movie or go to bed or whatever" and you say "NO! There are people on the internet,,,, with --------,,,,, and they're wrong!!!"

Drag shows are like minstrel shows. The people in them do not usually identify as the opposite gender and are generally doing a parody or exaggeration of them.
