Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, March 12, 2023

When White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said last month of Gov. DeSantis, "When you think of the study of Black Americans, that is what he wants to block," there was an easy way for reporters to test her assertion.

Just check the new English Language Arts standards that the Florida Department of Education adopted in February 2020. They're called the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.), and they replaced the Common Core model of the 2010s. Everything in them belies Jean-Pierre and everyone else who accuses the governor of anti-Black bias

Full disclosure: The author participated in the creation of the BEST program and he acknowledges so in this piece.

When I saw the headline at realclearpolitics I was expecting a lot of rhetoric and little substance. The opposite proved to be the case.

So far the author of the document only speaks of the document.

How is the implementation of what the document proposes proceeding in Florida?

Lamplighter,

Very good question. I dont know the answer. It may be too soon to be able to properly evaluate. The program went live in 2020.

@#4 ... It may be too soon to be able to properly evaluate. ...

Yeh, a piece of paper is nice, but I would be reluctant to extrapolate that piece of paper into what is being taught in the classrooms and what books are available in public school libraries.

Indeed, recent evidence seems to indicate a direction away from that piece of paper.

Not surprising that the piece of paper emerged just as Gov DeSantis seems to be kicking off his 2024 campaign.

Tiny D is the racist pissant who banned Roberto Clemente's biography.

#5. Why do you so constantly lie? I get that you are a troll but try being honest once in a while. If you did some people might take your bait.

Please cite a single book that is banned in Florida.

#7. That's not a book ban. It's called "curating". ALL libraries do it because they don't have enough shelf space to hold even a fraction of the number of books available to them.

I'll be more specific:

Please cite a book that is prohibited for sale in the state of Florida or is prohibited to be owned by an individual in the state of Florida.

Look at this loser try to claim Jodi Pocoult's books were pulled from Florida libraries because shelf space is limited.

#9 | Posted by reinheitsgebot at 2023-03-12 05:03 PM | Reply

Again, it's called curating.

You obviously disagree with some of the choices being made. Nothing wrong with that.

Think about this: during a presser DeSantis showed illustrations from some of the books that got pulled and the media outlets had to cut their feeds because the images were too graphic.

Now, let's "circle back" to the subject of this thread. If you read the attached link, how do you assess the writer's claims?

Again, Tiny D is even banning math textbooks.

@#10 ... Again, it's called curating. ...

Curating... what are the guidelines for that curation?

Your current alias seems to be OK with th "curating," so I'd think that it would know the guidelines used.

He is just mad that DeSantis did not force libraries to cover his photo all male re-enactment of------------- using himself staring in both roles.

Age appropriateness is one guideline that was used. They found certain books in some school libraries that were very sexually graphic with the illustrations as well as language. During a presser they showed actual pictures from these certain books, Gender ----- being one of them, and the news outlets covering the presser had to cut their feeds because the material was too graphic.

Too graphic for a news feed but perfectly OK for a child to view?

It's a shame that 90% of the books in B.E.S.T. are now outlawed.
