..."We have decided to start the protocol of Finland's accession to NATO in our parliament," Erdogan said following talks with his visiting Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that he welcomed the decision "to move ahead with the ratification of Finland's membership in NATO," adding, "This will strengthen Finland's security, it will strengthen Sweden's security." ...

NATO requires the unanimous approval of the legislatures of its 30 existing members to expand, and Turkey and Hungary are the only two countries yet to do this for Sweden and Finland.

Meanwhile, Mate Kocsis, the leader of the ruling Fidesz party's parliamentary group, said that Hungary's legislature will vote on the ratification of Finland's NATO accession on March 27 and the majority ruling party bloc will unanimously support the bid....

Turkey is looking out for its own interests, which sometimes intersect with Russia's but often don't.

@#3 ... Turkey is looking out for its own interests, which sometimes intersect with Russia's but often don't. ...

As does Hungary.

But when the rubber hits the road, they seem to lean towards NAT, not Russia.

And to mention, if Finland's request to join NATO is eventually approved, it will signal a majorly significant faux pas in Pres Putin's strategy.

He seems to have thought that his unprovoked invasion of a sovereign Ukraine would splinter the West, the EU and NATO specifically.

It turns out that his unprovoked of a sovereign Ukraine has done just the opposite of what he seems to have hoped.

It appears to have created more of a unity within the EU and NATO, to the point that more countries are seeking membership in those two unions.

The lives of how many Russians have been lost due to Pres Putin's strategic miscalculation?

How many?

"Turkey is looking out for its own interests, which sometimes intersect with Russia's but often don't."

China needs to look out for it's own interests and avoid helping Russia.

Putin wouldn't hesitate to foment violent in China and then invade.

While this will only have an indirect effect on what's happening in Ukraine, it does reinforce the notion that Putin is NOT getting what he expected to happen in Europe as a result of his invasion of Ukraine.
