Well, well, well, look who's trying to ride the woke train all the way to trendy town. It seems like everything and everyone is woke these days, doesn't it? Train derailments? Woke. Bank failures? Woke. Candy bars? Woke. Missing uranium? Woke. I mean, what's next? Are we going to start calling the common cold woke too? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being aware and conscious of social issues, but let's not water down the term woke so much that it loses its meaning entirely. Otherwise, we'll all end up sounding like a bunch of babbling wokesters, and nobody wants that.

#6 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2023-03-18 03:34 AM | Reply

And let's talk about the people who claim to be woke, shall we? Sure, they may be woke about some things, but then they go and support unethical corporations, or use offensive language without realizing it, or dismiss the experiences of marginalized groups. It's like they pick and choose which issues to be woke about, while conveniently ignoring others. That's not being woke, that's being selective.

So, if you're going to use the term woke, at least use it correctly and consistently. And let's not forget that being woke is just one small part of being a responsible and compassionate human being. It's not enough to simply be aware of social issues, we also have to take action and make positive changes in the world. So, instead of just talking the woke talk, let's walk the woke walk too.

Because if we don't, we'll end up with a world full of people who are so woke, they're actually still asleep. And trust me, nobody wants to deal with a bunch of groggy wokesters stumbling around trying to make a difference. Let's aim for woke, but not broke or asleep.

#7 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2023-03-18 03:37 AM | Reply

Oh, how curious a phenomenon is this "woke" that thou dost speak of. Forsooth, there be those who claim to be so, and yet their actions doth belie their words. They doth support corporations of ill repute, use language most offensive, and dismiss the plights of the marginalized. They pick and choose their causes like fruits from a tree, leaving many unattended, unaided.

But true wokeness, ah, that is a different matter entirely. It is not enough to simply be aware of the issues that plague society, but to act upon them with a heart of compassion and a spirit of responsibility. For if we do not, we risk falling into a slumber, as if the eyes be open, but the mind be asleep.

Nay, let us not be content with merely speaking the language of the "woke", but let our deeds be the measure of our true awakening. For only then may we truly claim the mantle of wokeness, and walk with pride and purpose in a world in need of true change.

The concept of "wokeness" has become increasingly prevalent in modern discourse, with individuals and organizations alike striving to demonstrate their awareness and sensitivity to social issues. While the intentions behind this trend are admirable, it is important to consider the underlying mechanisms by which individuals and groups become "woke", as well as the potential limitations and drawbacks of this approach.

At its core, the notion of wokeness is rooted in cognitive processes related to social perception and identity. Psychological research has shown that individuals tend to categorize others based on salient features such as race, gender, and age, which can lead to biases and stereotyping. The act of becoming "woke" can be seen as a means of countering these tendencies by recognizing and challenging one's own biases and assumptions.

However, this process is not without its pitfalls. Firstly, the very act of self-proclaiming wokeness can become performative, with individuals more focused on appearing socially aware than actually engaging with the issues at hand. This can lead to a shallow understanding of complex issues and a lack of genuine engagement with marginalized communities.

Furthermore, the concept of wokeness can be co-opted and appropriated by those with opposing political or ideological agendas. For example, far-right groups have used the term "woke" to denigrate progressive social movements and dismiss concerns around social justice issues.

It is also important to recognize that the concept of wokeness is not a panacea for societal ills. While it may help individuals to recognize and challenge their own biases, it does not address the underlying systemic inequalities and power imbalances that contribute to social injustice. A truly transformative approach to social change must involve a combination of individual and collective action, as well as systemic reform and structural change.

Okay, okay, I get it. We're all supposed to be 'woke' these days. But can we just take a moment to appreciate the beauty of ignorance? I mean, ignorance is bliss, right? And sometimes it's just easier to stick our heads in the sand and pretend everything is hunky-dory.

But seriously, I do think it's important to be aware of the social issues affecting our world. However, we also need to recognize that not everyone has had the same opportunities or experiences that have led them to be "woke." So let's not judge or shame those who may not be as socially aware as we are.

Instead, let's focus on educating and empowering each other to create positive change. And if all else fails, we can always resort to humor. After all, laughter is the best medicine, even for the un-woke.

Or, we can just pretend we're all on a reality show called 'The Woke-Off' and see who can out-woke each other. Winner gets a participation trophy and a lifetime supply of fair trade, organic quinoa.

#16 Please move to China. We fought a civil war to end slavery. Mexico imported as many slaves as we did, but when Spain told them to free them, they genocided them. Mexico went from 10% Black to 1% today in one year. Mexico ended public school segregation in 1996, and starting in 2020 you can now select "African-Mexican" as your race on the census. Oops.

America got over that long ago. The third world still hasn't caught up.

For bonus points, type "What happened to Argentina's slaves" into google. It imported 10 times as many slaves as America, and in 5 waves of genocide, reduced it's Black population from well over 4 million it imported to 150,000 Black survivors today.

God the woke are stupid.

ummmm

I do.

Here are the exact words:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

IOW, slavery is enshrined in the US Constitution.

"Tres Fleches" means "Three Arrows" in Spanish. It's a popular symbol from the original antifa movement out of Nazi Germany (Frankfurt school, Critical Theory, Identity Politics, Hitler, etc...). Just look it up.

Three arrows through three circles is Beretta's logo. But "three arrows" in Italian is "tre flecce". Similar but not quite the same.

There are also a number of US military patches which feature three arrows in the design.

And HELIUMRAT is correct, three arrows facing down and to the left was the symbol of Drei Pfeile ("three arrows" in German), which is is a social democratic political symbol associated with the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), used in the late history of the Weimar Republic. First conceived for the SPD-dominated Iron Front as a symbol of the social democratic resistance against Nazism in 1932, it became an official symbol of the Party during the November 1932 German federal election, representing opposition towards Nazism, Marxism-Leninism and reactionary conservatism. Since its inception, the symbol has been used in many different contexts by a variety of anti-fascist, social democratic and democratic socialist organizations.

Mexico imported as many slaves as we did, but when Spain told them to free them, they genocided [sic] them. Mexico went from 10% Black to 1% today in one year.

This statement is not accurate.

Mexico did have a history of slavery, but it was not on the same scale as the United States. Slavery in Mexico primarily involved indigenous peoples and was concentrated in certain regions, such as the Pacific coast and the Yucatan Peninsula. www.blackpast.org

Spain did not abolish slavery in Mexico. Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1821, and slavery was not abolished in Mexico until 1829. It was the Mexican government that passed a law abolishing slavery in the country. www.jstor.org

The claim that Mexico "genocided" their black population is unfounded. While there were instances of violence and discrimination against Afro-Mexicans after the abolition of slavery, there was no intentional attempt to eradicate the black population. www.aljazeera.com

There are no reliable statistics to support the claim that Mexico went from 10% black to 1% black in one year. The black population in Mexico has fluctuated throughout history, but it has never been as high as 10% of the total population. Today, Mexico's Afro-Mexican population is estimated to be around 1-2%. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-36519972
