Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Knowing it or not Maher paraphrased the philosophers observation that when men drive God out of their hearts they replace it and often with something worse. In the case Maher observes that people have abandoned Christianity in favor of either the Church of the woke or the cult of trump. He then makes a beautiful case for being less hateful of the majority of those who dare disagree with you.

Oh I'm totally fine with splitting things up. It's definitely for the best at this point. The only solution that has any real chance of keeping this US together is implementing radical federalism. If not ... an amicable split is 100% fine by me.

Even when Republicans control things and you have California pushing for Cal-exit as they did during the Trump years ... My response is go for it. Both sides have two different sets of values and a society cannot function that way. So split the baby or greatly reduced the power of the Federal government and hand it over to regions to determine what is best for them.

Hate it all you want but that's what Bill Maher says and yes there is a very disturbing cult like mentality when it comes to Trump's followers.

-Both sides have two different sets of values and a society cannot function that way.

The evidence says you're wrong.

We've been functioning that way for a long time.

Ask yourself if you're an American first or a PARTISAN first.

I'm an American first. That really ------- pisses people off.

The people that pisses off? They can all go ---- themselves.

I can live with folks with different values. I can accept they have a voice and a vote. If I get my way, fine. If I don't, I'll live with it and I'll continue to tolerate those with whom I disagree.

Now, I just described more people that you all think really exist.

Hysterical purse swinging partisans think otherwise but ... ... they're dumb.

I'm with eberly.

As a gun owning liberal who lives next to conservatives who are very pro gun control we don't need a billion small countries we need a United States of america.

#7 | Posted by Tor at 2023-03-18 12:47 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 3

Eberly, I think you may have misinterpreted what I was trying to say, but that would be my fault for not clearly stating my position. I am in far greater support of radical federalism than I am of splitting the nation along partisan lines.

It benefits far more people to have the Federal Government cede power to regions and also staves off the potential for violent conflict. I view it as a have your cake and eat it to scenario in which the USA remains intact but Power is removed from DC and given to regions that have a far better understanding of what they may need than the Federal Govt itself.

With the other part that was said ... If push came to shove and a "national divorce" took place it wouldn't bother me. I don't really see how things would dramatically change for anyone to be honest (again barring the potential for violent conflict).

Just got off the phone with a Republican friend who lives in San Francisco.

His reply to the idea of a national divorce boils down to f*** no I live here.

"I don't really see how things would dramatically change"

Are you joking?

Without the blue states to support them (or a Federal government to reign them in), the red states would become a backwater, 2nd world country, replete with Handmaiden's Tale laws, with low test scores, shorter lifespans, and less intelligent populace.

You know...kind of like it is now, just without the bailouts..

And regardless of whether or not they like to admit it blue States appreciate the delightful Insanity of Nevada the ongoing agriculture in Iowa and the vast Wilderness of Alaska.

I don't know really.

But I've suggested people move if they are so unhappy or so unsafe.

It was met with "people can't just move!!!!"

Well then how is this better? If Yav can't leave Florida now, then how is he going to like living in Florida as it's own country?

How is that better than just packing up and leaving if it's so damn bad.

The truth is that he's just a ------ drama queen who isn't going to lift a finger to better his life.

Neither is corky, or Zed, or anybody else whining about where they live.

THEY are the problem. Not the place they live.

#13 | Posted by eberly at 2023-03-18 01:09 PM | Reply

DANFORTH ... why would you care if any of that happened? I'm assuming you live in a blue state so who cares? If democrats want to trans 12 year olds they'd be free to. Quite frankly I wouldn't care, I just know where I live that wouldn't be happening and that's mainly the point.

Two ideologies that are now at an impasse.

That's how those places are described now by the whiners who live there.

However, I agree with you.

I know plenty of folks who have a differing opinion than myself. I respect their views even if they do not align with my own. That said ... Eberly pointed out ... rather than bitching and moaning ... they're free to move elsewhere bc where I live ... Things aren't changing. Even though the Democrats say every election this will be the year it finally happens and like clockwork they get destroyed.

The majority of the folks in my state overwhelmingly agree with my views. Why would I need to leave? There's a reason I never moved to California ... I don't see a point in living some place that doesn't have my values.

What a tool

Imagine the bureaucracy of having to do business across state lines under such a scenario let alone interstate travel as Americans know it

Looks like your theory is wring as usual.

As for the United States of America. We've always been one country. There was a war to prove just that.

Putin would love nothing more than to see the United States dissolved into nothing.

You Republicans are his tools for doing so.

Because you and Yav agree on a lot means there are no cultural differences between the two states? California is dark blue and Florida is pretty red.

Removing the US military from red states would be a blow from which they would never recover.

Red States would be forced to pay odious taxes if they were financing 100 percent of the red states actual expenses.

Can red states afford to pay the salaries, benefits. and retirements for all of their Employees.

Imagine Red state budgets if US Federal funding for everything would abruptly end.

Can Red States build their own roads, maintain their own military, and pay for everything made possible by Blue state billions. You know, everything current federal funds are making possible?

America would be spending much less money to support dead state, Red state, shieht-hole states.

Unless Red states nationalize their oil industries, how would they be able support themselves in states in which the vast majority of their citizenry violently chafe at the thought of...actually paying taxes?

Come on, man.
