Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, March 20, 2023

State, federal and local officials from neighboring Humboldt County had put together an emergency rescue operation to airdrop stranded cattle bales of hay. They called it "Operation Hay Drop." Humboldt County Supervisor Michelle Bushnell says lots of cows in the area are going hungry because of the snow. "They have absolutely no feed," she said. "There's no grass growing." So far, Operation Hay Drop has been a success, said rancher Puga. The mission covers about 2,500 head of cattle over several miles.

If they had livestock mortality insurance, I would ask the carrier to chip in for some of that

Did ranchers get a bill from DOD or did we pick up the tab, again?

Some much needed PR, at least for the Feds involved, while their Kamrades in New Mexico slaughter them from the air in New Mexico...

YOu can't tell the difference between 150 feral cattle and 2500 useful cattle?

All cattle are useful, you mouth-breathing dumbass.

It's called "scalability".

#8 | Posted by Mao_Content at 2023-03-20 09:29 PM | Reply

That is, unless you shoot them from the air and let them rot where they lay.

That's just incompetence...a hallmark of the current Federal Regime.

No it's called "my party failed at a fascist coup on live tv so I'm going to nitpick every time a democrat sneezes in order to pretend that they're just as bad as we are"

nitpick

They're literally shooting and wasting dozens of tons of beef in a blue state full of drunken Gut-Eaters, already wards of the State, most of whom lack access to proper nutrition and you're calling that "nitpicking"?

my party failed at a fascist coup on live tv

You continue to be an unserious person.

"You continue to be an unserious person."

Regardless of the topic, he has the same moronic schtick.

Every single day.

I'd listen to Mao if I were you. He's been in the cattle business.

#14 | Posted by LauraMohr at 2023-03-20 10:52 PM | Reply

I'm still in the cow business, Lawrence, but just as a sideshow. I do it for my kids and my own sanity.

The New Mexico thing pisses me off.

I used to make a pretty good living (relative to my age) catching wild cows in New Mexico and Arizona.

All you need is food and your A-Game, Rock-Rolling horses and the means to keep them shod and maybe a few good dogs. Access to a good, strong trap to keep them in was helpful, too.

There's no reason they couldn't have let a crew bid on the work and come in and do the same thing.

2002 Mao would say "I keep what I catch and sell for market price".

2023 Mao would say, "I can either sell everything I catch for market price.... or you Fed dumbasses can have what I catch and pay me 10% over market price for everything....except for +2 year old bulls.

You either pay me 40% over market value for them or they get left behind and/or choked to death.

Goddamn communist.

It's always been funny to me that rwingers who make 6 figures think they are in Bill Gates or Elon Musk money and support whatever the 1 percenters tell them.... because, you know, they are just alike.

Of course, 90 percent of the people in this country, most of our 6 figure friends included, only own 10 percent of the wealth, no matter that they think that their ---- doesn't stink, and they are so much better than the majority of Americans, 64 percent, who live paycheck to paycheck.

Crony capitalism, where the very wealthy own the media and the People's Representatives in Gov, always flows money upwards; it never tinkles down.

But at least the plutocrats don't have to worry about plutocrat wannabes... they are the easiest to con, even easier than the trailer trash.

It's funny to me that octogenarian dumbasses, given all the wisdom life has afforded them by virtue of their longevity, can't grasp the fact that "wealth" is not a zero-sum concept.

Maybe "funny" was the wrong word.....

Some of the best beef I've ever eaten has come from Humboldt County. I'm glad to see the California guard doing its part and getting in some exercise in the process.

Yeah its just a total coincidence that as more wealth has moved to the rich, the middle class has dried up. Totally.

One supposes that "of, by, and for the People" really means of, by, and for the corporate wealthy.

Amazing what Trumpism has done to corrode the minds of the formerly at least semi-conscious.

What's funny is that you haven't been able to make a cogent argument here in defense of Agent Orange since 2016.

That's interesting - had no idea that was going on in NM. I bet they had no shortage of volunteers to shoot feral livestock from a helicopter lol

I bet they had no shortage of volunteers to shoot feral livestock from a helicopter

Pretty sure they were helicopter contractors who have gone through a bidding process with whatever Fed agency (USFS? BLM?) hired them.

If you got the capital to buy an R44 and hire a skilled pilot you can start an aerial hunting service pretty quick.

Don't know if the shooters were paying customers to the contractors or just Fed technicians.

True, and that's a badass gig you had there

Youth was the badass gig I had there. Plus the skill-set to develop and hone using all the energy the term "youth" implies. It's a craft to punch cows---a sub-craft to go get the wild ones.

We did some amazing ---- in some amazing and extremely remote country---all in the haze of youthful invincibility, whiskey, and whores.

But now I got another "badass gig" raising my kids to want to do the same kind of thing, if that's what they want.

But the old days were good ones.

@#6 ... For the second year in a row, shooters in helicopters will gun down an estimated 150 feral cattle that are trampling habitats in the Gila Wilderness, a sprawling undeveloped area of more than a half million acres within the Gila National Forest in New Mexico. ...

interesting article, but how is it relevant to the thread?
