Other GOP presidential hopefuls have been trying to carve out a third lane, doing so " in part " by portraying the two front runners as mere clones.

"... portraying the two front runners as mere clones."

They misspelled, "clowns".

Sad, evil, dangerous authoritarian clowns.

But former-Trumpers would be better off voting for moderate Dems or even BBros rather than neocons like Pence or Haley.

But that would be them voting their own best self-interests economically rather than those of their plutocrat betters.

Fears about the rise of those rightwing fascists and taking the White House in 2024 would be non-existent if Joe Biden was not closing in on 80 years of age. Nobody in their right mind WANTS DeSantis or Trump, but lots of people may vote for them if they believe that given his age Joe Biden is longer mentally competent to run the country. (And so, of course, the one, non-stop drumbeat from all Republicans has been to lie about and exaggerate any Biden-related cognition issues. And you know that will only get increasing amounts of rightwing disinformation as the election approaches.)

You mean, will they take the person that got the most votes over a "neutral" socialist that never was associated with the partY?

Not so much really.

Bernie had advantages, too.

But he did the right thing and supported the candidate, and urged his supporters to do the same.

Some did not, and helped elect Trump.

The most lasting effect of the primary, however, may have been how Trump picked up their, "the election was rigged" meme, and ran with it.

All the way to prison, hopefully.
