Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former President Donald Trump's legal team has formally requested a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland, amid fears from his attorneys that the coming weeks could bring a possible indictment of Trump regarding his alleged efforts to retain materials after leaving office and to obstruct the government's attempts to retrieve them.

"ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated"

He is such a ----- whiner.

How you dumbs**ts think of him as an alpha male is hilarious.

What his team is fearing is that evidence was turned over by the national archives to Jack Smith PROVING that dotard KNEW the procedure for declassifying documents and HAD FOLLOWED it in previous declassifications before he stole the classified documents to mar a lard ass. They also have video proof and testimony from aides that they were INSTRUCTED BY HIM to move the documents out of the secure storage area AFTER HE WAS TOLD BY THE DOJ TO NOT MOVE THEM.

So it comes down to...if he KNEW how to properly declassify the documents previously, what changed this time?

Was it the nature of the documents so damaging to our national defense that it would not be declassified or would raise red flags throughout our security agencies?

Was it that he wanted to keep secret just what he was selling to Saudi Arabia?

Was it what he was stealing would get him tried for treason?

Was it just that the people who did the declassification request previously for him refuse because they knew he had no business taking them?

I am going to speculate that all those answers are a resounding yes.

The tone of the letter is one of panic. He is fkng panicking about this. His legal team is panicking. One of his attorney's just quit.

His entire life his lawyers, accountants and daddy got him out of trouble. He is an entitled emotional toddler who was never educated on right or wrong and never had to face any consequences for his actions. Now he is learning...play stupid games...win stupid prizes.

Oh, he knows what right and wrong are. He just doesn't think the concepts apply to him.

This gets to why it is true- if he gets sufficient power-he will steal, rape, and kill.

We've had so many examples of Donald Trumps in the world, including within living memory.

Make Trump president again and he will be the last freely elected president, and likely last freely elected politician of any sort, in this country for a generation or more.

Make him president again and there will be heartbreak and blood.

What Jack Smith knows

Special counsel Jack Smith is wrapping up his criminal investigation into whether former President Trump mishandled classified documents, having interviewed virtually every employee at his Mar-a-Lago home, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Why it matters: This is the probe widely believed to pose the most serious threat to Trump's freedom. Based on the publicly reported evidence, Republicans may struggle in their efforts to defend Trump and undermine Smith's credibility in the way they've tried to do with Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.

- - - Former Attorney General Bill Barr, who slammed Bragg's indictment last month as an "abuse of prosecutorial power," warned last week that Trump could be "very exposed" legally in the Mar-a-Lago case.

- - - "I think this is a tight obstruction case," former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb also told CNN last week. "Yes, I do think he will go to jail on it."

What we know: The FBI executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago last August on suspicion that Trump had not returned all of the government documents in his possession, even after months of requests and a subpoena in May.

- - - Trump's lawyer, Evan Corcoran, was forced to testify after a judge determined Trump may have used him to lie to prosecutors " piercing traditional attorney-client privilege with a "crime fraud exception." ...

@#6 ... Trump's lawyer, Evan Corcoran, was forced to testify after a judge determined Trump may have used him to lie to prosecutors -- piercing traditional attorney-client privilege with a "crime fraud exception." ...

From what I've read and heard, a Judge does not "[pierce] traditional attorney-client privilege" without very good reason to do so.

Trump lawyers seek meeting with Garland as Mar-a-Lago investigation shows signs of winding down
apnews.com

... Lawyers for Donald Trump on Tuesday asked for a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland as a Justice Department investigation into the former president's handling of classified documents shows signs of winding down.

In the letter, which Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, attorneys John Rowley and James Trusty asserted that Trump is "being treated unfairly" and asked for a meeting to discuss "the ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors." The language echoed some of Trump's own complaints in recent months about the investigations being led by special counsel Jack Smith. ...

Sooo... fmr Pres Trump seems to know the gravitas of what he may be facing?

In addition to the Mar-A-Lago cases, there is also this one...

Trump makes video appearance in New York criminal case, trial date set for March primary season
apnews.com

... Donald Trump threw up his hands in frustration Tuesday as a judge scheduled his criminal trial for March 25, putting the former president and current candidate in a Manhattan courtroom in the heat of next year's presidential primary season.

Trump, appearing by video conference at a pretrial hearing in the hush-money case, glowered at the camera as Judge Juan Manuel Merchan advised him to cancel all other obligations for the duration of the trial, which could last several weeks.

Trump, wearing a blue suit against a backdrop of American flags at his Florida estate, then turned to a lawyer by his side -- their brief discussion inaudible on the video feed -- before sitting with his arms folded for the remainder of the hearing. ...

@#10

Also from that New York trial...

Trump instructed to obey court rules ahead of Manhattan criminal trial
www.npr.org

... A state judge in New York cautioned former President Donald Trump on Tuesday to obey a protective order dictating how he can talk about discovery materials during the upcoming criminal trial stemming from hush money payments paid to a former adult movie actress.

The order covers how Trump communicates publicly about emails, photographs, testimony and other evidence gathered as legal proceedings move forward ahead of the trial date set for March 25, 2024.

During a hearing held over a video connection, Judge Juan Merchan told Trump he must obey a protective order or there could be a "wide range of possible sanctions including a finding of contempt."

Trump appeared on screen looking tense and impatient, jaw rigid and fingers interlaced. He only spoke once, saying "I do," when asked if he had a copy of the protective order.

Judge Merchan is overseeing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's criminal case against Trump, which was filed last month.

The formal purpose of the hearing was to explain a protective order, normally a routine measure governing how sensitive discovery materials are handled before a trial.

But this order attempts to limit what information the former president, who has a history of lashing out at judges and prosecutors, is allowed to share publicly about the case against him. ...

It looks like this Judge wants none of fmr Pres Trump's usual attempt to move the trial over to the court of public opinion.

He'll have more indictments. What he won't have is any punishment because he's corrupted the minds of 1/3 of america's potential jury members, and he'll just pardon himself or be pardoned by whoever the next republican president is.

So far, one jury has disagreed with your opinion.

The Mar-A-Lago cases (note the plural) do seem to be more substantial than the case he recently lost.

My guess would be that obstruction of justice in the Mar-A-Lago cases may be most worrisome for fmr Pres Trump.

Yet he's still not been punished. He won't pay. And even he does, he won't feel a 5 million dollar penalty. So = not punished.

Well, yeah if he soaks his supporters for even more money to pay his court-ordered payments in a civil case against him, he may not feel that penalty.

But it would be a start of holding him accountable for his actions.

The Carroll case was, in my view, important in two ways...

1) fmr Pres Trump was held accountable for his prior actions.

2) it showed that fmr Pres Trump is not Teflon-coated.

The Carroll case is the beginning, not the end.

In my view, of course.

"The letter, though thin on details, was sent so Trump's lawyers could present arguments that Trump should not be charged in the investigation related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News."

"thin on details" ~ hmmmm, interesting.

That sounds like they're looking for a deal.

What could Trump's attorneys possibly have to offer Merrick Garland other than an insanity plea?

Keeping in mind that an insanity plea would extend a trial date out for months, perhaps past November 2024, while Trump undergoes a battery of court ordered psychological evaluations.

BTW, shouldn't Trump's attorneys be requesting a meeting with the Special Prosecutor, Jack Smith instead?

I can't picture Merrick Garland stepping into the middle of Jack Smith's case ~ or even putting his thumb on the scale.

This is NOT Trump's Bill Barr DOJ any more.

Yesterday it was announced that Trump's Mar-a-Lago case is near it's end with professional conclusions that he will be indicted.

www.msn.com

Trump's attorneys have apparently seen the writing on the wall.

Why they would expect Merrick Garland to put his thumb on the scale is a mystery unless they have something too serious to put on the record ~ at least for the moment.

Garland has wisely NOT agreed to their request for a meeting. If Trump's attorneys think they have something exculpatory, put it out there. Chances are it's just another one of Trump's convoluted "blame games" anyway.

Trump's attorneys have apparently seen the writing on the wall.

Once Concoran was compelled to testify his legal team knew they were fkked.

I had to laugh when the letter veered into Hunter Biden.

This is NOT Trump's Bill Barr DOJ any more.

Even Bill Barr says dotard is fkked. Might be him trying to resuscitate any remaining credibility he thinks he has, but he is on record saying it.

"Former Attorney General William Barr said Wednesday he thinks the Department of Justice is "getting very close" to having the evidence to indict Donald Trump " but hopes the agency declines to charge the ex-president."

I for one am tired of watching the well connected abuse the justice system to their advantage solely because of who they are. The public is fed up with it as well.

"Nine in ten Americans (88%) agree that Donald Trump is not above the law, including 94% of Democrats, 89% of Republicans and 79% of independents. Eighty-five percent of Americans say if Donald Trump broke the law, he should stand trial, including 94% of Democrats, 79% of independents, and 80% of Republicans. "

That's pretty overwhelming.

Well, when Trump only has one straw to cling to, that's what he's going to do.

Although I fail to see what Hunter Biden has to do with either of Jack Smith's investigations of the Mar-a-Lago documents or the January 6 insurrection.

Surely, Trump's attorneys requesting the meeting are aware of that.

We may be missing the boat here. That request for a meeting might be about something completely different. As the report said, the letter was very skimpy on details.

If so, the field is wide open for speculation. Perhaps Trump has convinced his attorneys that he has a mole in the Justice Department who can prove that he (Trump) is being wrongly persecuted.

LOL ~ I'll go with that.

The letter served 3 purposes

1. Continuing the grift (always no. 1 priority)
2. Communicating with "members of congress"-note not listed which is telling
3. Inciting violence (possible undertone of letter)

Are the expected charges obstruction?

I am imagining so, I mean, he didn't exactly cooperate right?

And to further bury himself, he is on record as saying he was allowed to have the documents and they were his.

It's really flabbergasting. Any normal human being would have been "tell me what you want and we will return it because I really don't to F around with the DOJ".

Trump is really deranged.

#29 | Posted by brass30 at 2023-05-25 04:04 PM | Reply

I suppose the request for a meeting could be about Trump's old schtick about why the DOJ was prosecuting him and not Hunter Biden. That's been a bee in his bonnet for a long time.

But that doesn't sound right either. Trump's M.O. is always to delay, delay, delay. Right now, Trump's complaint is that the indictment would put the long trial square in the middle of his campaign. He probably thinks that's contrived.
