The thing about Maher position on "woke" is he fails to acknowledge that the whole thing is primarily a made up controversy by the right. They paint any seemingly odd leftist behavior as representative of all liberals and progressives. It is wholly disingenuous and defending marginalized groups that are being attacked should be a core leftist value. He refuses to acknowledge that this whole thing is a huge nothing burger at best or weaponization of leftist compassion at worst.

His primary motivation is that he thinks he is being "cancelled " by the left. Which is downright insane given he is paid quite handsomely for his speech. He attacks liberals (and usually marginalized groups) for finding a way to cooperate and respond to hateful rhetoric and actions. And public shaming of -------- or de platforming bigots is not something the left need apologize for
