Paul Waldman: If one tried to articulate the principle upon which the Republican push to impeach President Biden is based - Public officials shouldn't be permitted to profit from their positions, and anyone who does should be removed from office. But if any Republican said that out loud, the proper response would be to burst out laughing.

Republicans are not characterizing their impeachment push against Biden as an attempt to bring strict ethical standards back to government. There's no high-minded talk of integrity, moral rectitude or the solemn obligations of public service. That's because they are in the midst of a years-long crusade to convince the public to not care about corruption.

That crusade is only partly about defending Trump, perhaps the most shamelessly corrupt president in U.S. history. He installed his laughably unqualified family members in White House positions. He spent a good amount of time in office at his various resorts, charging the Secret Service as much as $1,185 a night per room to stay there to protect him. His Washington hotel became a destination for anyone who wanted to put some money directly in his pocket; foreign governments spent millions of dollars there, as did a fleet of Republican candidates and party flunkies. Foreign governments also eagerly gave special favors to Trump's businesses. His relentless advocacy for the government of Saudi Arabia while in office was followed by the Saudis giving son-in-law Jared Kushner $2 billion for his start-up private equity firm, even though the Saudis' own investment advisers found Kushner's operation "unsatisfactory in all aspects."

Were Republicans bothered by this ---- of self-dealing? They were not. In fact, judging by the myriad ways they have decimated the legal and normative standards to which public officials must abide, they were perfectly sincere when they insisted that Trump's actions were nothing worse than what voters should expect of anyone in high office.

So listen closely as Republicans offer their wild tales of President Biden's alleged wrongdoing, spun from innuendo and outright lies. They'll say Biden is "corrupt," but they likely won't say why corruption is bad. Because they don't think it is.

The GOP is into 'fuzzy concepts'...

Their fuzzy fear campaign of Biden
is sort of like their, fuzzy understanding
of math or science, or their fuzzy idea of a
health care plan, or their fuzzy
notion of how Trickle Down Economics is
supposed to work for those not already rich...

They are really fuzzy alright.

Fuzzy on morality, or fuzzy on the concept
of Global Warming and Climate Change, fuzzy on,
military promotions, or on, how to fund the government...(rant trails off...)

Ahhh, yes. On our statutes we call it "Mofsed fel-Arz," "Spreading Corruption on Earth." Thanks for catching up, GOPiggies. Chop, chop.

TONY

I'm waiting for them to link the impeachment to Hunter Biden's super-duper secret stash of bribe money located somewhere north and west of nowhere but definitely south of someplace else.

Rumors are that the Lajeana brothers, Rick and Marty will be on the job right after they find the treasure on Oak Island.

This Biden "scandal" is what MAGA does to avoid work or thinking.

Impeaching Biden for "corruption" without a lick of evidence while toting the water for the corrupt orange jizzfart and defending him from four indictments in multiple states covering 91 felonies is ultimate magat uselessness.

What a joke the GQP has become.

You did this to yourself. You decided in 2016 that running a failed game show host with an aura of corruption, sexual assault, rape and racism was a good idea. You had other candidates you could chose from, but chose this bloated orange turd and it is going to ruin you and I am here for every minute of your party circling the bowl.

Republicans are not characterizing their impeachment push against Biden as an attempt to bring strict ethical standards back to government.

How many in the GQP asked for pardons after 1/6? You ask for a pardon when you're guilty. Period. That is the definition of a pardon.

George Santos.
Bobo
Sex trafficker Gaetz
Sporkfoot.

There is not an ounce of morality or ethics among them.

This impeachment scam is the idea of the fascist orange jizzfart...he wanted it and told Qevin to do it and the lapdog did it.

He needs it to muddy the waters as more and more of his crimes are getting prosecuted.

Period.

Nixon, why would the Bidens create 17 shell companies and why did Joe and Hunter each get 5 million after the Ukraine prosecutor was fired? Just a couple layups for you out of many.

Link(s) please?

Let me also clue you in... If they actually created shell companies to do something illicit they would have been done in a fashion that you would not have been able to track the companies back to them. The payments would have gone to those companies. I mean the Panama papers clearly laid out how all this sort of thing works. Did you learn nothing there?

Fishy P speak in half truths...

No money went to Pres Biden, 89 percent went to Hunter's business, and testimony in the House GOP Hearing by their witnesses saying there was no
quid pro quo.

Ok, so why would they create companies where payments can't be traced back to them? I mean if they were on the straight and narrow.

#10 The source says in the FD-1023 that in a meeting and in phone calls over the next year, Zlochevsky claimed that he was "forced" to pay Joe and Hunter Biden $5 million each, apparently in exchange for firing a Ukrainian prosecutor named Viktor Shokin who was purportedly investigating Burisma at the time.

LMAO
So, Joe is going to have his son hung out to dry to protect his own legacy from the money laundering scandal. Sounds about right.

BTW, the article doesn't really have any other talking points except it being "convoluted", as we would expect from a money laundering scam. Gee, I wonder if this has anything to do with the lawsuit Hunter just filed against the IRS concerning his "privacy"?

How Republicans overhype the findings of their Hunter Biden probe

"We've identified about 20-plus shell companies that the Bidens have created to launder the money they were receiving from foreign nationals down to their personal bank account."

- Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, interview on Fox Business, May 11

Comer often suggests that the Biden family used these so-called shell companies to launder money; in his telling, such companies served no legitimate function. But that claim is undercut by the list of 21 companies that appear in the second staff memo.

Virtually all of the companies (many of which now are defunct) had legitimate business interests. Others had clearly identified business investments[Each one explained in detail in the hyperlinked article]. Digging through the records, we find only three whose business purpose remains vague; one (Rosemont Seneca Global Risk Services, LLC) may not even be related to Hunter Biden, according to an email found in Hunter Biden's laptop. The memos do not list any payments that flowed through these three companies.

Hunter Biden's decision to pursue business deals that at the time overlapped with his father's policy brief as vice president was ill-advised and has caused political headaches for his father. Republicans are pursuing the case with vigor, but Comer undercuts the findings of his investigation by hyping what has been found. He claims there were more than 20 "shell companies," but upon inspection most of the companies named had legitimate business transactions or investments. He claims the Bidens received more than $20 million from foreign sources, leaving off the caveat in the staff reports that two-thirds of the payments went to Hunter Biden's business partners.

Comer would have more credibility if he stuck to documented facts - such as saying precisely that Hunter Biden received $7 million from foreign sources. He earns Three Pinocchios.

We had a thread for 48 hours about what a complete POS James Comer is and his overhyping of otherwise benign information and of course we find the same idiots back today regurgitating the same pablum.

What do you call a President that allows millions of unvetted foreign nationals into our country against the will of most every citizen, and against our immigration laws on the books and our Constitution? It is obviously impeachment for high crimes. It should be worse. One senile old man is destroying our country

@#24 ... against our immigration laws on the books and our Constitution? ...

Are you saying that Gov DeSantis and Gov Abbott are aiding and abetting criminals when they put "unvetted foreign nationals" onto buses and ship them to safe havens in the Country?

- one senile old man

Obvious projection.

When Biden sends an armed mob, many of whom go to prison, to stop the peaceful transfer of power in this country so his Fake Electors, also going to prison, can replace actual Electors certified by both Red and Blue states...

Then he'll be the same as the criminal traitor whom you pimp for here daily.

Idiot.

The Source didn't write the FD-1023. The FD-1023 CITES an unnamed source. That FD-1023 says this unnamed Source said Zlochevsky told him...

Great.

WHO is the source? WHERE is the source now?

Where are the recordings and texts the Source claimed Zlochevsky had?

Why did Zlochevsky say the exact opposite before this investigation started?

This magical unnamed source also claimed Biden got Shokin fired to protect Burisma. Literally all evidence says that's not true and there's mountains of evidence.

FISHPAW, I have an unnamed source that has some things to say about you... They must be true, right?

Trump has 500 shell companies.

Why would he create them if not for corruption?

Go lick some doorknobs.
