The US Senate is getting a makeover. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has told the sergeant-at-arms to no longer enforce the body's informal dress code for senators on the chamber floor.

Casual wear on the senate floor?

I blame climate change and DC heat. Probably smelled like swamp ass in the chambers last session.

Boebert can break out her Daisy Duke outfits if they go for this in the HoR.

#2 | Posted by REDIAL at 2023-09-18 11:48 PM | Reply

Nope, she's not a senator. House dress code remains in effect.

#3 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2023-09-19 08:37 AM | Reply

Neither is the crazy one that was waving around Hunter Biden's dick pics. She waved around dick pics... but mad at shorts in the senate.

How about tank tops? DC heat must be miserable wearing a shirt buttoned up to the neck and a neck tie.

#5 | Posted by danni at 2023-09-19 10:21 AM | Reply

I don't care what they wear as long as they do their job.

#6 | Posted by Sycophant at 2023-09-19 11:09 AM | Reply

It's not like they actually DO anything. Might as well be comfortable.

#7 | Posted by LegallyYourDead at 2023-09-19 12:17 PM | Reply

Oh hell no.

Congress can afford AC.

I am fine with kilts, turbans, and moccasins so long as everyone is wearing the formal version.

#8 | Posted by Tor at 2023-09-19 12:20 PM | Reply

Shorts I'm ok with, speedos and mankinis I don't think I'm good with.

#9 | Posted by BBQ at 2023-09-19 12:41 PM | Reply

What about Manssiere and Bros?

#10 | Posted by ClownShack at 2023-09-19 12:46 PM | Reply

You want people voting on life and death matters while dressed like borat at the beach?

If you think congress would never do that MTG really is that trashy.

#11 | Posted by Tor at 2023-09-19 12:49 PM | Reply

@Tor: you want people who think a suit makes the man to make choices? lipstick on a pig. I'd like them all to take an IQ test and wear that on a shirt.

#12 | Posted by Brennnn at 2023-09-19 01:27 PM | Reply

Now that is a great idea for an AR application. Face recognize the politician, then project charts over their head with net worth, campaign promises fulfilled, bipartisan actions, campaign donations... should be the standard for CSPAN viewing.

#13 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2023-09-19 01:33 PM | Reply

I'm not ashamed of the fact that I don't want people dressed like it's casual Friday when they're literally making life and death decisions.

#14 | Posted by Tor at 2023-09-19 02:39 PM | Reply

I think Fetterman is letting himself go too far.

I'm not going to take someone seriouly if they're sitting there with their left nut hangin out.

Looking presentable is about self-respect, and respect for those around you.

And you can go without a suit without looking like you've been rotting on a couch all week.

#15 | Posted by horstngraben at 2023-09-19 03:29 PM | Reply

Uh, if you can see his left nut hanging out, you're under his desk sucking him off, so that's going to be the least of the problems.

Schumer comes out looking like an absolute clown with this.

Change the rules for 1 member and of course all of the staffers are still required to follow the dress code.

#17 | Posted by BellRinger at 2023-09-19 04:40 PM | Reply

Republicans are more upset about a member in shorts than insurrectionists with zipties -------- on the walls and trying to overthrow democracy.

This is true. Although, I recall them getting even more upset over the tan suit.

Senator Susan Collins has said she plans to start wearing a bikini if they get rid of the dress code.

@#1 ... Casual wear on the senate floor? ...

I'm of two minds about this.

On one hand, in a prior life, I worked in a small company where the CEO wore shorts, a t-shirt (without a bra) and sandals during the summer months. And the a/c in the building worked fine.

On the other hand, the Senate chamber, like most (nearly all) office buildings, also has air-conditioning, so the outside temperature is not a concern, and I would expect a certain level of decorum in the dress of the Senators.

My current view about this new [lack of] dress code is along the lines of WTF? Something is not right here.

The USA is going to hell based on most polls and our open borders and Schumer frets about shorts and hooded sweat shirts for FETTERMAN.

#23 | Posted by Robson at 2023-09-19 07:06 PM | Reply

Lets be real here MTG wouldn't hesitate to show up to Congress in a Hooters t-shirt and Daisy Duke shorts.

#24 | Posted by Tor at 2023-09-19 07:08 PM | Reply

I give a ---- about USA not Fetterman or MTG or the clueless 80IQ one supposedly from Harvard in a hooded sweatshirt. Forget politics and fix the USA.

#25 | Posted by Robson at 2023-09-19 07:22 PM | Reply

@#23 ... The USA is going to hell based on most polls and our open borders ...

Your current alias seems to be focused on border issues (with lots of misinformation, I might add).

While I do admit there are problems with our border policies, fmr Pres Trump had a golden opportunity to solve a lot of the border problems.

Indeed, he sent one of his aides, Steven Miller, to work with the Republican-led Congress in 2018 to come up with a solution. The resulting four pillars law, which would have passed Congress was shown to fmr Pres Trump. It was what he wanted, yet he said he would not sign it.

Why would he not sign it? Well, talk of the time had said that if that law went into effect, Republicans could no longer use the southern border for political purposes.

If fmr Pres Trump had been willing to sign that law, that he had said he wanted, then your alias would not be able to whine here incessantly about our open borders and illegal immigrants.

So... your problem really seems to be with fmr Pres Trump.

Why don't you call him out on it?

@#23 ... Schumer frets about shorts and hooded sweat shirts for FETTERMAN. ...

I don't that Sen Schumer fretted at all.

He made a decision, then moved on to the next item on his list.

From what I've seen, it is a lot of Republicans who are fretting and spending (your alias seems to think, wasting) a lot of time on this issue.

Fetterman needs to learn how to wear a suit.

#28 | Posted by Tor at 2023-09-19 07:41 PM | Reply

28. Yes Fetterman needs to wear a suit instead of playing the role of a radical Dem who hates everything about tradition. The man is a true wothless shill who will never get a bill passed. He is exactly what we do not need.

@#29 ... Fetterman needs to wear a suit instead of playing the role of a radical Dem who hates everything about tradition. ...

So, your alias seems to know why Sen Fetterman wears shorts.

Please explain, in detail, with substantiation.

thx.

Fetterman's opinions need not be..fettered...by cheap Chinese trolls.

He needs to dress in a fitting manner.

Lenin had no problem dressing to the 9's same with Castro.

You know who can't handle wearing a suit?

Toddlers.

@#31 ... You know who can't handle wearing a suit?...

Me.

I hate wearing a suit.

In a prior life I worked for a company, the marketing division of the company. The dress code stated that when I was flying on company business I had to wear a three piece suit.

So I sat on airplanes in that three piece suit.

As a result, I hated to travel for that company, and I soon moved on. I moved on not because I disagreed with the goals of the company or what the company had accomplished. I moved on because of the company's stupid dress requirement when I was on an airplane on company business. I mean, who on that airplane had a clue of the company I worked for? ...

Fetterman is an ACTUAL populist instead of the plutocrat puppets your party elects. Why do you think tax cuts for the rich is the only thing republicans actually got done during trump's presidency?

#34 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2023-09-19 09:15 PM | Reply

I don't recall any of this sort of talk from #29 when mainstream house republicans gleefully displayed giant photographs of Hunter Biden's enormous ---- on the floor of the house.

They were jovial about it.

That really demeans all that your alias seems to espouse here.

Which is a shame, because, for the most part, I do agree with what your alias espouses.

Oh well...

Am I the one who needs to try harder?

Really....

Dress codes make some sense, when some sort of a uniform is needed, as in the military or police. But the necktie is an ancient bit of nonsense, it was originally a piece of military uniform hundreds of years ago. and if I had a choice I would vote to put personal clothing choice under the human rights banner. You get to wear a suit and tie if you want, and I get to wear something, else.
