Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Federal prosecutors charged Ray Epps, with one count of disorderly conduct, according to a Monday court filing. It's quite a turnaround for Epps, who has faced years of threats and been forced to go into hiding after finding himself the victim of a right-wing conspiracy campaign aimed at blaming January 6 on a murky cohort of supposed federal agents.

Epps, right-wing dots-connectors have long claimed, did a shocking thing on Jan. 5 and 6: as an undercover federal agent, he singlehandedly instigated the attack. Former Fox News fixture Tucker Carlson used Epps to suggest that the entire Jan. 6 attack was the product of a conspiracy engineered by federal agents, while Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) once used his time at a hearing to ask federal law enforcement officials, "Is Ray Epps a fed?"

Now, Epps has been charged via criminal information with a misdemeanor. Michael Teter, an attorney representing Epps in a civil defamation suit against Fox News, confirmed a plea deal to TPM, saying that there would be a hearing in the matter on Wednesday.

The charging document says that Epps entered cordoned off areas of the Capitol grounds on Jan. 6 with the intent of disrupting federal business.

In that lawsuit against Fox News, Epps said that he had been told by federal prosecutors in May that he would be charged. Epps blamed that decision by prosecutors on "political pressure" generated by "the relentless attacks by Fox and Mr. Carlson."

Is there any doubt how right wingers will react to Epps being charged? Of course not. It's predictable as water being wet and fire burning paper.

I wouldn't say that those on the left love the guy as much as view with disdain what those on the right seem to have done to him.

Don't really care about this guy.

I just know that if Tuckems, Cancun Cruz and the rest of the gang that can't shoot straight are accusing him of being a government false flag instigation, then you know that are full of sh**.

You know Cruz is throwing this guy under the bus to save his own sorry ass and well Tuckems is a long time p.o.s. that will say anything and ruin the lives of anyone he can to save Dear Leader.

If he was there and took part...lock him up with the rest of the traitors. FAFO.

Next up...the orange traitorous jizzfart.

#3 60 year old women entering the capitol after having a door held open for them and waved in by the police, wandering around for 15 minutes and then leaving have had more charges leveled at them than this guy. These people are ALL labeled as seditious traitors by the left and the media along with the DOJ yet Epps gets off basically scot free. Something doesn't add up.

No sympathy for Epps. It's just MAGA eating their own.

As MAGA does.

How many other people and their families have been terrorized by fanatic MAGA?

Epps better hope he doesn't get jail time. The jails are teeming with MAGA criminals.

#6 That actually happened. A couple of hundred of the people in the building were violent and are getting sentenced accordingly. Plenty also just wandered around for a bit and then left.

Epps NEVER entered the Capitol Building, he entered "cordoned off areas of the Capitol grounds".

Want to tell us how many hundreds - if not thousands - of rabid Trumpers did what he did on 1/6 and were never charged for anything?

This is the one I was thinking of:

In a statement before her sentencing, Morgan-Lloyd issued a tearful apology to "the court, the American people, and my family". "I was there to show support for President Trump peacefully, and I'm ashamed that it became a savage display of violence that day, and I would have never been there if I had a clue it was going to turn out that way. "I never wanted to be part of anything like that, and I just wanted to apologize."

It was a marked shift in tone from her first reaction to the Capitol attack: "Best day ever. We stormed the capitol building," Morgan-Lloyd wrote on Facebook on 6 January, prosecutors said. She added that she and her friend "were in the first 50 people in", authorities said.

Over 1,100 have been arrested tried and convicted and sentenced accordingly.

Like I said. You can't add it up because you are terrible at math.

Obviously.

Someone else who wasn't there just got 22 years. I forget his name.

Epps gets a lot of attention because he's on video inciting people to go into the capitol. And it seems the only reason a single charge was brought against him is the attention he's getting.

Grandma walks around the Capitol and gets 5 years in prison, Ray Epps encourages people to go into the building and leads the charge and gets hit with a misdemeanor. Seems legit.

Everyone is missing the point.

Ray was charged for a misdemeanor the day before Garland was to testify before Congress.

The point isn't justice, but Garland avoiding perjury.

Ohhh I assumed just as much oneironaut, can't be perjuring oneself when you're the only guy protecting the "big guy" at this point. On a side note, Garland will probably be needing to look for a new job here in a little over a year from now.

I'll never understand how these people could feel compelled to engage in violence on behalf of a man who they couldn't possibly think was a moral Authority or even a credible source of information. The man altered weather maps with a sharpie and declared the altered version to be the truth.

May God forgive them.

Such a bizarre take on reality. "Ray Epps was a fed" is one of the endless spigot of rightwing conspiracy theories. Some lefties spend their time debunking ridiculous rightwing conspiracy theories. It has nothing to do with "loving" any subject of the conspiracy.

Adam Kinzinger sung his praises. He goes from a top 10 on FBI most wanted list to ... nothing. The video coverage of him speaks for itself. The DOJ has been hyper-aggressive prosecuting J6 people but this guy has gotten kid gloves treatment and even this charge is tepid. The whole thing looks really strange and contradictory.

Haven't seen a really good straw man in a while. Fascist right makes up story about Ray Epps, pushes said story, it gets picked up as news, narrative gets exposed as nonsense, fascist right formulates multiple conspiracy threads because narrative-discrediting evidence is presented to them, conspiracies are also discredited as conspiracy theories...the "lefties love this guy."

#38 | Posted by chuffy at 2023-09-21 11:34 AM | Reply

What amazes me about this straw man is that, as is often the case with people dialed into the New Pravda, I'm willing to bet that most "lefties" don't even know who Ray Epps is. Fascist right propagandists create entire conspiracy ecosystems around people that the rest of us (who don't treat Newsmax, Cocainebart or Fox as our primary sources of information) have to actually look up in order to see what they're talking about. See Saul Alinsky, George Soros, etc...

The fascist right spins these yarns about people we've never even heard of, and after a few weeks of stewing in their propaganda BS, jumps right into "the lefties are all deriving their world view from (boogyman X) and we have to stop them!" Meanwhile, most of the left is wondering who they're talking about.
