A New York judge on Tuesday refused to dismiss state Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit accusing Donald Trump of illegally inflating his assets and net worth, and ruled Trump and the Trump Organization are liable for fraud..

Beyond mere bragging about his riches, Trump, his company and key executives repeatedly lied about them on his annual financial statements, reaping rewards such as favorable loan terms and lower insurance premiums, Engoron found.

Those tactics crossed a line and violated the law, the judge said, rejecting Trump's contention that a disclaimer on the financial statements absolved him of any wrongdoing.

Everything Trump touches dies.

This is a developing story and the reuters story doesn't have the details yet. But probably the biggest deal about this ruling is that Judge Engoron revoked Trump's NY business certificates and ordered the dissolution of Trump's NY based businesses.

WTF?!? Like there'd be a disclaimer allowing tax cheats?

Not really. They know how to run a government, but they don't know how to get elected. They think policy matters to people.

He knows how to get elected, but has no idea to run a government. And that doesn't bother him or his base.

If either side could do a bit of both the margins would not be so thin.

Once it's decided that Trump Org. LLC is found guilty and all its assets must be dissolved, Trump's next biggest problem will be how to keep everything out of a court ordered receivership. Of course, he can move the company name to another state if he can find one willing to put up with the headaches, but not the brick-and-mortar assets, such as Trump Tower or his golf courses which will have to cease operations unless the court assigns someone to oversee their continued operation for the sake of sell value, and take control of the money therefrom.

It doesn't take a long post to predict the end. Trump will be stone, cold broke. His credit rating will be zero. Any mortgages he owes will go on instant recall. All his wealthy friends won't return his phone calls. His PACs will die of starvation. His team of attorneys will be whittled down to one. And Trump himself will be in a prison somewhere in Georgia, still trying to plot the assassination of his enemies.

Word salad.

This is a partial summary judgment i.e. not final. It adjudicates one limited issue as a matter of law i.e. ripe for later appeal. Other issues remain for resolution at trial.

Speculation about the affect if any is dumb.

The worst thing he did to himself was put a target on himself by being the worst president in history. As a private citizen he probably would've flown under the scrutiny of authorities. "Trump's contention that a disclaimer on the financial statements absolved him of any wrongdoing."

Financial statements are ALWAYS the responsibility of management. Auditors test the accuracy of the records and assumptions in the disclosures.

Once Mazors retracted the financial statements they had opined on previously the cat was out of the bag. "While we have not concluded that the various financial statements, as a whole, contain material discrepancies, based upon the totality of the circumstances, we believe our advice to you to no longer rely upon those financial statements is appropriate," Mazars General Counsel William J. Kelly wrote to his Trump Organization counterpart, Alan Garten.

I read the Order.

The Judge just takes Trump apart. He overvalued assets by literal billions even when he had literal appraisals.

A bunch of his businesses can no longer operate and will be sold off.

She even sanctioned his attorneys for rehashing old arguments that already failed on appeal.

The funny part is that most of the case can't be appealed because it was already appealed and lost.

Trump just lost hundreds of millions of dollars, if not closer to a billion.

The State certificates for Trump, Org LLC have already been cancelled. The company can no longer do business in the State of New York. Nor can any of the companies that belong to his two sons. The judge said that the offences were so egregious and obvious that he didn't need a trial. There will still be a hearing but only to decide the financial compensation. I have my fingers crossed for a court ordered receivership to sell of Trump's property and pay off his mortgages and any other claimants that he owes them money, including his lawyers and every other small business that he screwed over the years.

This is going to be one hell of a mess.

I guess now we'll know the truth about the rumor that Trump Quit Claimed Mar-a-Lago over to Junior ~ who is also one of the litigants in the New York fraud case, which means that's not going to do Trump any good.

Trump's Business Empire at Risk of Dissolution After New York Ruling
www.bnnbloomberg.ca

... Donald Trump rode down the escalator at Trump Tower to announce he was running for president in 2015. The Fifth Avenue skyscraper had long served as the backdrop to his business success story, which in turn became the foundation for his rise in politics.

Now his control over that property and others could be in jeopardy.

The New York judge who ruled on Tuesday that the former president committed fraud by inflating the value of many of his assets also authorized state Attorney General Letitia James to cancel certificates for companies that hold those assets. Judge Arthur Engoron said James, who sued Trump last year, could seek an order as well barring him and his companies from continuing to conduct business in New York.

At a Wednesday hearing, Engoron gave Trump and James 30 days to recommend the names of potential independent receivers to oversee the dissolution of those companies. The Trump Organization is comprised of some 500 different entities, and the scope of Engoron's order remains unclear. Christopher Kise, a lawyer for Trump, asked the judge if all of the Trump entities face dissolution.

Engoron said the parties and the receiver would "work it out." Kise suggested that Barbara Jones, a retired federal judge who was previously appointed as an independent monitor in the case, could serve as receiver, and lawyers from the attorney general's office expressed openness to the idea. ...

Trump was desperate and bank shopping after he got dumped by Deutsch. Nobody else wanted to handle the liability.

Axos wanted to use Trump's name to make a big splash for themselves in the internet banking business. At the time they were actually underfunded to authorize such a big loan but managed a reach-around to get it done.

There's another internet bank called Professional Financial, or some such thing, that Trump squeezed another million dollars out of.

San Diego's Axos Bank, Still Lending to Trump, Sees Website, Stock Go Down (July 2023)
timesofsandiego.com

... The website of the San Diego-based online bank scrutinized for its loans to Donald Trump was down for at least five hours Thursday " and so was the stock price of its parent.

A little before noon, a customer service rep for Axos Bank confirmed "an across-the-board outage" " but the site was restored by 12:40 p.m.

Thursday morning, a 3,800-word story was posted by The Washington Post under the headline "Trump needed $225 million. A little-known bank came to the rescue."

"Gregory Garrabrants, a GOP donor and CEO of online Axos Bank, approved the loans after the former president's main lender had cut ties," the paper added.

It wasn't news that Axos lends to the former president " since Newsweek and Forbes in March 2022 had reported large real-estate loans to Trump's company.

But Post reporter Michael Kranish visited the University City offices of Axos Bank and interviewed its president, Garrabrants, for his first public comments on the Trump loans. ...

maybe this will explain what happened:

I can't speak for then but when I went bank shopping recently, I learned that those high interest rates at an online bank only apply to balances under $1,000.

After that it graduates down to $0.01. That's what they pay you to "rent" your money.
