An Appellate judge that cited free speech concerns, lifted the gag order preventing Donald Trump maligning court staff. The gag order had been ordered by the trial judge in Trump's fraud hearing.

... At an emergency hearing Thursday, Friedman questioned Engoron's authority to police what Trump says outside the courtroom. He also disputed the trial judge's contention that restricting the 2024 Republican front-runner's speech was necessary or the right remedy to protect his staff's safety. This apparently will continue until Trump gets someone killed or injured. Will be a bit late by that time to enforce a gag order. Had it been Average Joe, they'd long ago been sitting in jail for violation of a gag order.

Just like he got hundreds of thousands of morons killed by downplaying covid and spreading doubt in public health measures. Thankfully he killed enough of you idiots to cost you the senate in the midterms.

That's some re-writing of history there.
Next tell us the story of how Jesus was an American and fended off Roman authorities with an AR.

Kamala Harris needs to starting earning her keep by talking smack about Trump family members, starting with posing the question of "Where's Melania and why isn't she supporting her husband?" ask every day, at least once a day. Then start asking about the college grades earned by the Trump brood and why they aren't being disclosed. Top it off by bringing a scale with her, inviting a certain orange tub of goo to weight in to see if he can come within 10% of his 'reported' weight of 215. Hijinks will ensue, and steam will be vented from Der Insurrectionist's mouth...

#12 Your rants about something you have minimal knowledge on are getting tiresome.
This would be like me complaining that all the steps pharma companies need to take to bring a new drug to market are stupid and unnecessary because "waahh, i want my medicine NOW!" Surely there is more to it than that, and i leave it to the experts in that field on both the government and science sides to know better than i do.

Good for you.
I'll remind you of this in January 2025 when Trump is back in office and doing exactly what he said he'd do.
Or I'll eat crow at some point between then and now.
I hope it's the second.
BTW you've said nothing to placate my concerns. In fact, you've only reinforced them because you're too close and can't or won't see it any other way.
Cool false equivalency, though. This isn't based, at all, on immediate gratification on my part.

I don't see how it could possibly be based on anything else. Every remark you make is about how the clock is ticking; you've spent hours complaining about a Michigan ruling that was based in large part on the fact that the 14th Amendment only prohibits an insurrectionist from "holding" office and therefore the claim is not ripe *yet* as to someone seeking to "run" for office. I'm sorry you get mad when judges actually read the law but your comments are only making me think the judge is right.

Also, there's a bit of irony (unintentional, I'm sure) in your comparison.
When an emergency hit (COVID pandemic), ---- got done.
And it got done by the field coalescing around finding a solution to a once in a century problem by turning to people who knew the field, getting acquainted with it so they could convert their own lab's activities to SARS2 research and using past knowledge to inform current solutions and obtain data necessary to develop and produce a vaccine and other preventatives in record time.
There wasn't "well, my lab isn't a coronavirus lab" or "my lab doesn't work on vaccines" or "shifting gears will make it hard to go back to the research program I was previously running before COVID."
They. Got. ----. Done.
Even figuring out how to modify clinical trial protocols to make it f&^%ing happen.
So spare me. What is easily the biggest test of our judiciary in a century is being met with "I can't do this, shouldn't you be doing this? Who's doing this?" as a response.
And if (big IF I hope) Trump does get on the ballot and pull off an authoritarian take over, the judiciary will have proven itself just as useless as I'm starting to think they are right now, no matter how much self-righteous whining they engage in.

This is like letting a house catch fire before fixing an electrical problem.
You're so wed, as a profession, to semantics and hyper literal nonsense you're going to create a crisis, willingly, by letting a man get elected before saying "nah, just kidding, you can't hold office."
That is f*&^ing retarded. Like shrimptacodan level retarded.

Never said that ------. I said one particular judge made a ripeness ruling that is defensible on its face if you actually read laws and think judges should too. I would go further than that judge did without hesitation, but I don't think a judiciary full of activists is healthy for democracy.
I think our country will continue to be run by ------- because our electoral system is rigged in favor of people dumb enough to vote for -------. And if you think a random judge willing to ignore legal principles is going to save you from that crisis you're just as stupid as Trump voters.

Let me ask this, as it appears pretty obvious that the judges in these cases are following the letter of the law about "holding" office.
At what point would a candidate who is disqualified under the Amendment be subject to it's enforced, and what Court or branch of government would enforce it?
. I think that it will remain academic, as Michelle will best the at least thrice convicted felon anyway.... as would Joe Who already did it once, and without the growing economy we'll have next year.

I apologize for coming across as harsh Joe, wasn't intending to attack you.
I will say I took this post to mean that the prohibition is against holding office and thus the claim won't be ripe while he is running. I think the logical conclusion is that arguments means the courts can't step in until an election is won. I just think it hilarious that anyone would think ------- will be stoppable at that point.

As far as the electoral college, I agree. I live in a very blue county in a very blue state. My vote for federal office has been meaningless for as long as I can remember.
That definitely leads to disengagement. When the election for president is decided in a handful of states and a handful of states for senator (though Manchin and GA were nice surprises), but even that is very limited and the HoR gerrymandered so only a handful of seats are actually competitive, why bother engaging. My vote literally doesn't matter. I am sure there are millions in red and blue states that feel the same way though republicans thrive on this system so they could care less

Dude. We're talking about the survival of our Republic.
Now, if you don't believe that, just say so.
Otherwise, admit that the usual, head scratching "duhhhhhhhhhh think about the semantics, I'm not listed in the Constitution during a time of crisis" approach might not be the best here.

Judges need to make sure they get it right on this one. If they let Trump get away with maligning court staffers, other defendants will soon follow suit.
In any event, I expect to see a lot more criminal defendants running for president.

Republicans have made clear for years now that they will double down and engage in bad faith retaliation for anything Democrats do to Trump. If you think kicking him off the ballot is going to save the country i don't think you're paying attention. Some Trump judge will just boot the top Dem off the ballot for no good reason in response, or some Republican sheriff will just arrest the top Dem contender for the crimes of BLM or something.
And i'm not saying that should intimidate anyone from trying, I'm telling you to be realistic about what the consequences of that sort of action would be.

I've already addressed this and you don't need to keep repeating it. That the Repubs would use it in bad faith isn't some insightful statement.
I would add, though, if the judiciary is capable of doing its job this time, why wouldn't it do its job then?

You are advocating that the courts simply anoint Biden as winner. Nothing to do with vote count, the will of the people, etc.
Are you incapable of seeing the chaos this unprecedented move would create?

The Colorado Judge ruled that Trump conspired in an insurrection against the United States.
But because the Presidential Oath doesn't include the exact word "support" as in the Amendment, but rather serve and protect, Trump never swore to support the government.
Which is laughable on its face.
But Trumpers love it that he doesn't support the US, by his own lawyer's argument.
