Sunday, November 19, 2023

Carter Center: Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, a passionate champion of mental health, caregiving, and women's rights, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2:10 p.m. at her home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 96. She died peacefully, with family by her side. Mrs. Carter was married for 77 years to Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, who is now 99 years old. "Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished," President Carter said. "She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me."

He's not far behind sadly. The Carter's showed us what Christianity is supposed to be.

RIP Mrs Carter

Both of the Carters lived under the credo, "give unto others, and you shall receive". Would that even a small fraction of our other leaders lived under a similar credo.

They were role models on what it means to 'serve the people', and ALL of the people, not just the rich, famous, or powerful...

Jimmy Carter is who we needed in 1976 after the Nixon (GOP) debacle. Jimmy Carter was not who we needed by 1979. I liked him a lot, but by the end he lost his ability to lead. Inflation, interest rates and an Iranian revolution overwhelmed his simple feel good messages for America.

As for Roslynn, I always felt a little sorry for her. A quiet rural girl from Plains Georgia thrust in the brightest of spotlights. She acquitted herself well. But she never seemed to fully define her role. She certainly was never comfortable being limited to purely ceremonial roles. And Americans were never comfortable with the notion of a First Lady actively helping to form policy.

RIP

She was a beautiful soul that Society wasn't ready for. Too much too soon for the majority of humanity. Rest in peace.

Jimmy Carter, who ACTUALLY lived as christ instructed, is despised by the so-called christian party, while they worship a man who is the literal opposite of jesus in every way.

Wow? Good wow or bad wow? Or maybe bow wow?

It's a bad WOW. I believe that Jimmy Carter gets too much flak for things not of his making. He tried to fix the country for the better and was rebuffed along the way. We were just coming off of the Vietnam War. Our military had been decimated. We was coming out of Nixon's crimes that never got prosecuted etc etc. He was a good president that had too much to fix in such short of time.

Just think of the differences between good folks like the Carters and trash like the Trumps.

LM: I liked Jimmy Carter, and I remember his presidency clearly. By the end of his time as President, there was a real pessimism throughout America, and a perception (rightly or wrongly) that Carter was not up to the job. He himself while president described the nation as being in a "malaise". Personally, I think Carter's greatest lapse was in losing the confidence of the American people. You may agree or disagree whether he deserved to lose that support, but there is no question but that he did. By the end he was not leading. He wasn't, - regardless of how much you and I may have liked him as a human being.

If anyone doubts how far ahead of society the Carter's work remind them that the Carters put solar panels on the roof of the white house.

And Ronald Reagan had the panels taken down, acting as if solar energy was all just a pathetic liberal joke in the first place. Reagan was ---- in so many ways.

He would have been a great President if the nation had listened to him instead of the corrupt Republicans. Jimmy was correct about so many things.

RIP, Rosalynn.

It's my understanding that there are solar panels on the roof of the White House now. Any chance they could be declared the Mr and Mrs Carter solar panels?

Note that most of the solar panels, despite Reagan's orders that they be destroyed, were saved and were later given to a small university in Maine where they were reinstalled and used for several years. Eventually one of the panels was given to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, another was put on display at the Carter Library in Atlanta and a third was donated to the Solar Science and Technology Museum in Dezhou, China.
