... The 8th Circuit covers Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, and Arkansas. Appeals courts covering other states have proactively found a private right of action, with the circuit split making it very likely the Supreme Court will weigh in. The 1965 Voting Rights Act has already been greatly diminished...
Shelby County [Alabama] v. Holder en.wikipedia.org
... The ruling has made it easier for state officials to make it harder for ethnic minority voters to vote.[5] Research shows that preclearance led to increases in minority congressional representation and minority voter turnout.[6][7] Five years after the ruling, nearly 1,000 U.S. polling places had closed, many of them in predominantly African-American counties. Research shows that changing and reducing voting locations can reduce voter turnout.[5] There were also cuts to early voting, purges of voter rolls, and imposition of strict voter ID laws.[8][9] A 2020 study found that jurisdictions that had previously been covered by preclearance substantially increased their voter registration purges after Shelby.[10] Virtually all voting restrictions after the ruling were enacted by Republicans.[11] ...   Concurrence Thomas wrote a concurring opinion expressing his view that Section 5 is also unconstitutional for the same reasons the Court held Section 4(b) unconstitutional.[2][39]   Dissent Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote a dissenting opinion that was joined by Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. ...

Obscene ruling. Gorsuch, Alito and Thomas are guaranteed to sign onto this. If Barrett and Kav do too, the VRA is cooked, because SCOTUS is just a FedSoc superlegislature now.

I wouldn't go so far as "guaranteed," they may decide in a surprising manner.
... The decision originates in a racial gerrymandering case out of Arkansas, where the state chapter of the NAACP and others alleged that the state's legislative districts violated the Voting Rights Act by diluting the voting power of Black voters. ...

#10 Gorsuch and Thomas literally invited this ruling in their Brnovoch concurrence, and Alito never rules differently from Thomas on politically charged cases. It is in fact guaranteed.

What is also interesting are the attempts to hijack the thread off into some other direction.
#10 ... alleged that the state's legislative districts violated the Voting Rights Act by diluting the voting power of Black voters. ...
Yeah, that seems to be central to the Republican strategy, i.e., diluting the power of Black voters.
It is quite ironic considering current polling.

How much you wanna bet more African Americans will vote in 2024 than any previous election?
All these voter suppression accusations fell apart in Georgia.
Gaslighter s favorite line, if you don't vote for Joe Biden you ain't black.
Lumps be racist.
Nothing wrong with asking voters to have an ID, and no delivery of food and water.
But I do disagree with the ruling, I don't see why the only one with standing is the government. This will be overturned on appeal.

"All these voter suppression accusations fell apart in Georgia. "
Ahh...one of the two central lies from the suppressionists: If we suppress 10,000 votes, but angry voters get wind of our plan and 11,000 extra come out to vote, that means we haven't suppressed any voters!
Just as dumb as the other central tenet/lie: An additional barrier to voting, won't be an additional barrier to voting.
