Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, December 03, 2023

Michigan, Washington, Texas and Alabama have been selected by the College Football Playoff committee to vie for the national championship. That means Florida State (No. 5) and Georgia (No. 6), two teams with compelling arguments for playoff inclusion, are instead on the outside looking in.

Winning a Power 5 conference and going undefeated should have been enough. It has always been enough in the past.

Florida State deserved to get in over Alabama.

I wonder if FL would have gotten in had it not been for their QB issues?

I was thinking TX might not make it.

They let The World Famous Buckeyes of THE Ohio State University in once time when they were on their 3rd string QB.

They won the whole thing.

Texas had to be in with a head to head win over the SEC champion.

Had they not let them in there would be absolutely no reason to ever schedule a tough non conference game.

A loss for Texas in that game would have been a loss and a reason to keep them out. The committee would have been telling them that their win didn't count.

They are writing this soap opera just as intended. Florida State is the victim here.....absolutely should have gotten in.

In a shocking decision (soon) they will announce the CFP expand to 8 teams.

Which was a condition for UT and OU to leave the Big 12.

And UT enters the SEC passionately hated....right out of the gate.

That's good for business.

If the committee's iOS was to pick the 4 best teams I think they got it right. Having said that i don't see how two one loss teams get in ahead of an undefeated power 5 conference champion.

I think Bama will beat Michigan and Texas will beat Washington setting up a season rematch of Bama and Texas. Texas won by two scores at Bama early in the season.

"As of the 2023 season, there are 10 conferences and 133 schools in FBS."

Just have each team play the other 132 teams once. Whoever has the best record is the champion. Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

Florida State woke up Saturday morning ranked #4.

Texas was #6, maybe, Alabama #8.

Something like that.

They all won their conference title game.

Texas moves up 3 spots, Alabama moves up 4, Florida State drops 1.

Peculiar.

How about a 8 week regular season from every sport, even pro sports, then 2 weeks to work out who wins it all.

10 weeks total.

That's 40 weeks a year of sports, and 12 weeks when it's illegal to talk about them.

nope.

bama beat the #1 team....

north alabama / southern mississiopi / boston college and 1 maybe 2 others on their schedule.just too weak.

and having 8 teams all within a whisker of each other made the strength of schedule much more of "a thing"

not really.

UT beat Bama who beat #1.

plus Texas destroyed the okie state cowboys in the championship game.

which is why I loved screaming this all day.

FCS starts off with a 32 team bracket and plays games to see who is the champ....conference champs and others....including a play in game.

BUT.....there are no bowl games to hand out checks for 6 -8 million per school...

so don't look for anything like that happen.

money money money makes the world go 'round'

Washington was no brainer beating Oregon twice....

Michigan beating ohio state was huge and they were pretty consistent.

like I said....and yeah I called it last night

bama beating #1georgia was HUGE / lol

texas beating bama IN Tuscaloosa and winning by double digits was HUGE/ lol

I feel for the seminoles but strength of schedule was the difference from what I could tell.

and even if expanded to 8....the #9 team will bitch.

and even if they expand it to 12....the #13 team will bitch.

.....................

but now it's NINER-TIME !!

The beat Alabama and they beat LSU by a wider margin than Alabama did.

I think if I was in Florida State I would probably skip the bowl game that they were chosen for.

I'd hang a banner up at my stadium they said 2024 national champions, sell some merch, etc.

#24 | Posted by tres_flechas at 2023-12-03 06:15 PM | Reply

Whoops.

They didn't beat Alabama, that was Texas.

They did beat LSU by a wider margin.

That's as close to head to head as you could get.

They're kids who sacrificed the college student experience and did everything they could do to get to the big show.

It's a crock.

Any undefeated team in power 5 deserves to go.

Florida State should offer $100M to the winner to play them at home.

TV rights alone would be $150M.

Liberty is a division 1 FBS team.....and they're 13-0

so then they should be there too....

if that's the criteria...but it's not.

acc is minor league compared to sec/ big10 / big12...hard to believe they're even in the power 5.

must be money involved someplace.

Oh please shrimp.

Liberty isn't in a power 5 conference.

Now you move the goal posts. FSUs schedule was much different in strength than others in the playoff. Alabama lost a game, they don't deserve it.

How does FSU win their championship game and fall a position.

Ridiculousness.

I hate the committee's decision to exclude FSU because I love college football, and this undermines everything that makes it beautiful.

Those saying FSU would get blown out may not be familiar with UM's record in the CFP

Jokes aside, this is a very dark day for the sport.

Alabama beat 5 ranked teams and lost to Texas who ended up ranked 3rd. Someone had to get left out, no way was it going to be the SEC champion. FSU beat one ranked team all season and their QB looked terrible in the last two games
If Georgia had won Saturday zero people would be saying that FSU "deserved" to get in. There would have been 5 undefeated teams and FSU would have been left out of any scenario. Plus it's FSU, probably the most hated D1 school in the country.

Let us never forget that cfb is a business that needs butts in seats and tv contracts. Nothing draws people like the prospect of beating a Saban team straight up.

So nope, fsu is not a great team. They are a good team in a bad conference (at least this year). They are an even worse team because their really decent qb is out.

Texas is a great team in a mediocre conference. They got beat by another mediocre team. People seem to forget that.

When Texas played bama, bama was full of young guys and they played terribly.

I hope Texas has to play bama now in the playoffs. Bama will embarrass them. In fact, I'm gonna go ahead and make my predictions. Bama beats Michigan, Washington beats Texas, bama beats Washington for bama's 19th nc.

Florida State was cheated. I don't really care one way or another. Bus as an outside observer it is clear. They were cheated. They did everything that could possibly have been asked of any team. And they were undefeated. They have good reason to be outraged about being supplanted by a one loss team.

In one fell swoop this whole CFP loses more credibility than it could have had their been out right cheating.

#4 Laura Mohr They thought so too. Alabama was rated as #8 and Georgia was rated as #1. Then Alabama did the unthinkable, they beat Georgia and they moved up in the standings. Maybe the 4 teams were based not just on how many wins v. losses but whether they played a softer or harder schedule. Roll Tide.

I'm impressed. Three schools with very good to excellent academic reputations. And Alabama, where the faculty still accepts homework assignments done in crayon. But the white girls on campus can still get an abortion...

With Georgia out they had to raise BAMA to play in the playoffs. ESPN Contract and all.
