... Republicans against Trump wrote: "WOW. Speaker Mike Johnson just said that MAGA Republicans are blurring out the faces of rioters on the Jan. 6 tapes 'because we don't want them to be retaliated against and be charged by the DOJ.' If this is not obstruction of justice, I don't know what is." ...

So the party of law wants to blank out the faces of people - to protect them from the DOJ - even while they are doing something that on the very basis of being there is illegal.

Nice.

What a joke.

What an embarrassing statement and action by the Speaker.

Why is MAGA Mike tampering with evidence?

Incompetence appears to be a major qualifying factor for MAGA Leadership.

The GOP is soft on crime

It's because their voters are soft in the head.

JeffJ supports this Government Censorship.

He's of the opinion, if the GOP does it, it can't be illegal.

Cultist mentality.

Or, they are blurring the faces of the Feds...

I'm confused are there tapes that Johnson has access to that the doj doesn't already have?

Good question.

I'm starting to think that having the Ten Commandments displayed at every public school isn't enough. Maybe they should be tattooed inside the eyelids of Republicans.

This is actually true, the DOJ has this raw footage, I would assume all or any of it they want.

So why does Johnson seemed consumed with blurring the public tapes? It's simple: to play the part of GOP versus the deep state. And to protect his GOP supporters from further embarrassment (not every single person was prosecuted - but it could still get them in trouble, say with their employer).

It's one big game.

Reich-wing clowns gonna Reich-wing clown

Update: Johnson's team says the DOJ does have the raw footage - and they are blurring to "protect those from retaliation from non government actors".

Nothing like protecting - at a minimum - trespassers who haven't been prosecuted from being ID'd.

Way to go GOP!!!!

The GOP, aiding and abetting an insurrection all the way...

"Win at ANY price!"...
the motto that will take down America.

@#12 ... are there tapes that Johnson has access to that the doj doesn't already have? ...

That's pretty much my view as well, that the DoJ already has all there tapes.

What I suspect Spkr Johnson is trying to avoid is citizens looking over the tapes and helping the DoJ identify the people who participated in the insurrection attempt. In my view, that is what Spkr Johnson sdoesn't want happening, citizens helping the DoJ.

Johnson was in on the attempted coup on January 6th.

The Republican Party doesn't stand for anything anymore. Not the rule of law. Not even democracy.

Conservatives Turn on Mike Johnson Over Jan. 6 Tapes
www.newsweek.com

... Reacting to the conference, conservatives suggested Johnson was trying to blur out the faces of federal agents involved in the riot.

While a conspiracy theory since the events has circulated speculating that FBI agents were involved in the riots, there is no evidence to support such a claim.

One person posted on X, formerly Twitter: "This is 100% to blur out all the feds. Like the FBI doesn't have copies of these. What a ridiculous lie."

"We already know what is going on here," opined another. "Protecting the feds."

"It's because they are feds," said a third. ...

Blurring the videos is just another painfully obvious attempt at obstructing Justice by making sure the public can't help identify any more insurrectionists. They actually even admitted as much. So much for the party of "law and order". Those days are over.
