I had an online conversation with a MAGA guy on Facebook after the El Paso shootings and asked him: "how many dead by guns will it take to convince you that you are wrong?" His answer was pretty indicative of the entire gun cult mindset: "about a billion."

Mass shootings are an unimpeachable proof of American exceptionalism. No way to prevent this. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of (insert city, school, church, concert venue, event here) for this horrific act of evil and to the families of those impacted by this tragedy. See you next time.

Add San Antonio and Austin area shootings ...

BTW, this little penny sized part called a "Glock Switch" is wreaking havoc across the country. Recently, a cop was killed after the shooter fired 10 rounds into his chest in a second. China's making 'em by the container full, and they can easily be 3D printed:M

Criminals are turning one of the world's most popular handguns into what prosecutors are calling a machine gun, and all it takes is a 3D printer

"China's making 'em by the container full"

This demonstrates why more anti-gun legislation is a fruitless endeavor, and just a talking point. There are already so many firearms, and so much of this stuff on the market, that it's now impossible to stuff it all back in the box.

Apparently all you need is a 3d printer.

And this is acceptable to people like Boaz.

I'm so glad my wife doesn't work in school buildings anymore. I was inches away from getting her a bullet resistant kevlar backing for her bag just in case. Thankfully that's no longer needed.

Yes you can, BOAZO. Lots and lots more.

You're basically correct. It would take generations of education and cultural shift to fix this, if at all possible.

"IMPD alarmed by Glock switch making guns fully automatic"

Sure seems like regulation of fully automatic weapons aren't in what Clarence Thomas calls the "historical tradition of firearm regulation" at the time of the Founders and are thus unlikely to be legal under the Bruen doctrine.

Universities/schools should be gun-free zones. They need tough gun laws, like Chicago has.

The last time Las Vegas had a mass shooting it was during that concert and some of the musicians had guns backstage. They quickly discovered that no matter what gun they used they couldn't stop the shooter. At least one of them became a fan of gun control that day.

" At least one of them became a fan of gun control that day."

It was only 60 dead. Just an average week in Chicago. But it happens every week in Chicago, and pretty damn rarely to us White folks, and I don't like Blacks, so I am against gun control. Let 'em kill each other off like animals.

I was in Vegas 3 weeks after that happened. I went to the the location... there was zero evidence that anything had ever happened there.

That's the creepy thing about murders in public places in a metropolitan area. I can recall walking down a street and when I arrived to my destination remembered that there had been a triple homicide on the street and block I had just walked down two whole weeks earlier. I had literally walked where people had bled to death just days earlier.

I called a friend from an area known for urban violence and asked what he thought was the appropriate amount of time to not walk on a sidewalk after a murder and he felt it was appropriate to avoid it for a week after which time there should be enough pigeon poo that it doesn't really matter anymore.

Polito's c.v. - it's at www.tonypolito.com - is a weird document if you inspect it from the p.o.v. of a member of a university hiring committee. My academic background wasn't in Business, so mine is a LA&S sort of perspective. Even so, that resume ... wow. It goes on forever, listing letters of recommendation Polito wrote, conferences he attended, a whole bunch of stuff you'd expect an academic to be doing in the normal course of business; certainly not trying to make a big deal about it. And the extensive advertising of which screams self-promoting lightweight. In fact, while I eventually set the doc aside it really doesn't advertise something it would be expected to advertise right up front, above the fold: was the guy ever actually tenured? Just curious. Because he may have nursed a grudge against "the system." Just a thought.

#34 | Posted by Doc_Sarvis at 2023-12-07 09:26 AM | Reply

Dr. Polito has also provided significant service to both academic discipline (eg, Decision Sciences Institute) as well as institution, the latter including University-level committees such as Chair of Committee for Student Appeals for Policy Exception (e.g., suspensions, graduations), Chair or member of numerous Academic Integrity Hearings, a member of the Intellectual Property Committee as well as a member of Committees specifically charged with review of matters such as tenure denial & general faculty grievances.

Can you be a PhD that sits on the committee that denies tenure if you yourself don't have it?

Yes, clearly I'm parodying the fact that if a drug deal goes wrong or DV in a school parking lot, it gets put in the same column as Columbine.

There's not much to add to this other than PhDs are a class of people that shouldn't own guns. Mostly for their own safety.

No it's not. Definitely not "exactly". Hard to tell if you are being ironic. It's someone who was just pissed that they didn't get hired. And they choose the Second Amendment Solution. Apparently.

It just happened to be at a school. He apparently wasn't going after any innocent students but the faculty that did not hire him.

Heard on the radio the dead were all faculty, the guy had 9 more magazines and was headed to the Student Union where a large party was in progress (this was a direct quote from interviewed law enforcement)

If the Uvalde "cops" had been involved there would have been dozens more dead.
