Is there a lot of area overlap between the two groups? Does not really look like it?

This article www.nbcnews.com has a map
media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com - [JPG] - The blue map dots denote Brood XIII cicadas and the red dots are areas where Brood XIX has emerged in the past. These areas will likely have periodical cicadas in 2024

Billions of Cicadas Expected this Spring in Once in a Lifetime Event

I hear that due to "Dual emergence" of inflation there are now expectations of more than a trillion of cicadas.

Fun times for some. For those who haven't experienced it (in Cincinnati we had 'Brood X') once you get over the cicada clinging to your shirt every so often, it's OK. The sound on a hot summer day is like a wave, rolling back and forth in wooded areas. Funny to see the robins, fat from bugs, scarcely able to take flight...

Caught a lot of Smallmouth Bass on top water on the Rapidan one year that already had cicada in their mouths.

Cicadas are just a normal thing here in the south.

Yes the annual ones are a normal thing but this isn't going to be "normal". This isn't a batch of annuals. Two of the long cycle batches are colliding this year 13 year and 17 year and oh ya - the annuals too.

we moved to kentucky in the summer of 2007 and that year I believe was 1 of the cycles.

I didn't realize there were different cycles of them. Wow

Brood X was a wild time, and also only 2-3 years ago?

Too many once in a lifetime events in the last decade to keep track.
