Joel Greenberg, a one-time close friend of Rep. McCarthy Predicts Gaetz Will Go to Prison

McCarthy showed there was still no love lost between the two by alluding to recent reports that Gaetz's former "wingman" Joel Greenberg is cooperating with the House Ethics Committee investigation of Gaetz for sexual misconduct with at least one underage girl:

"I think people see how far Matt Gaetz will go and the fear he has of what's in the ethics complaint. He's trying to protect himself, and that harms our caucus, that harms our majority. In the end, people will see why Gaetz would want to do that. And I think in the end, Gaetz would have a hard time being a Member of Congress and with staying out of jail too."

McCarthy always contended that the true motivation behind Gaetz leading the charge to oust him as Speaker was because he demanded McCarthy end the ethics investigation and he refused. McCarthy asserted that he had no authority to do that as Speaker, but that Gaetz insisted he do it anyway. Gaetz has steadfastly denied that, but Mike Johnson has done the exact same things that Gaetz complained about from McCarthy without a word of criticism from him.

PS Maybe Trump was unconsciously on to something when he kept confusing Matt Gaetz and Rick Gates, i.e., they are both criminal lawbreakers:

Is Matt Gaetz Exonerated? What Happens to Sex-Trafficking Accusations Now (February 2023)
www.newsweek.com

... Matt Gaetz was informed on Wednesday by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that he will not face federal sex-trafficking charges, according to his lawyers. ...

Speaking to The New York Times, an insider said the decision not to prosecute Gaetz appeared to be partially motivated by concerns that "some witnesses likely to testify against Mr. Gaetz might not have stood up well under cross-examination." ...

Will those witnesses ~stand up well~ in this House ethics investigation?

"Will those witnesses ~stand up well~ in this House ethics investigation?"

Time will tell.

But it sure sounds to me like there's been a break in the case against Matt Gaetz and McCarthy is about to wreak vengeance.

Let that be a lesson to Matt Getz about burning bridges behind him. I hope he's sweating bullets.

@#5 ... But it sure sounds to me like there's been a break in the case ...

That is my impression as well.

But, so far, all the evidence we have seen is that the DoJ abandoned its case because of apparently non-credible witnesses.

So that leads me to ask, as your comment implies, what's new here?

He and his Mentor Trump can be cellmates.

Now that would be Justice.

Just a suggestion, but in many such cases, it's the discovery of an unimpeachable video.

I'll agree that maybe the prosecutors have come across some new evidence that had not been previoulsy available.

But until that evidence is shown, we're just guessing.

Jokes on the committee.

Republicans have no ethics.

For sure somebody wants to deep six Gaetz before the GOP loses another seat in the House.

Something has turned up to make him a liability to the party.

His defense will be that his close friend and business partner is such a huge corrupt liar that his word can't be trusted in court.

So why was he friends and partners with someone so corrupt then?

SPEAKS

Whatever has turned up may not be a "court" thing. It may be a "resign or else" thing.

Hopefully, it's in the hands of the House Democrats.
