House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday appointed two far-right Republicans to the powerful House Intelligence Committee, positioning two close allies of Donald Trump who worked to overturn the 2020 presidential election on a panel that receives sensitive classified briefings and oversees the work of America's spy agencies.

Johnson once again doing Trump's bidding:

Jake Sherman

I wanted to spend a few minutes this AM on @SpeakerJohnson's decision to appoint Ronny Jackson and Scott Perry to the House Intelligence Committee.

I did a bunch of reporting last night, which was reflected in the AM edition.

I also wanted to add some more context.

As I wrote this morning, Johnson passed over Laurel Lee, who spent months on FISA, Tony Gonzales, a Navy cryptologist, and Stephanie Bice, a well-liked member of GOP leadership, to appoint Jackson and Perry.

The reason? He told people that he did this expressly because Trump ...

In doing so, Johnson has pissed off the people he passed over, of course. He's really pissed off the members of the Intelligence Committee, who are dumping on him and say this was a stupid, clownish move.

But he's also really pissed off the center of the conference.

What Johnson will probably learn at some point is that the center of the conference is a far bigger group than the Jackson/Perry allies.

He may not care because most members of leadership just want to keep Trump happy.

More lackeys to help Trump trash our intel communities and leak classified info to all and sundry:

Turner blindsided by Johnson's Intel appointments

News: Speaker Mike Johnson didn't tell House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner (R-Ohio) that he was appointing two controversial House Republicans to the secretive panel, just one of the dynamics that is causing angst across the Capitol.

Turner learned that Johnson was tapping Reps. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) and Scott Perry (R-Pa.) from press reports, according to multiple sources familiar with the events.

Johnson's decision to appoint the two hardline Republicans to the committee is reverberating throughout the Hill. Several members of the committee--Republicans and Democrats--say they worry about the integrity of the panel in the wake of Johnson's appointment of the pair.

Mike Turner, chair of the committee, is upset? He's been taking out of both sides of his mouth for so long he forgot Rule #1 of TrumpKult: Obey.

Now he will, right, Mike?

I've been saying all along that Johnson is a sneaky piece of work. I think his mother had Leonard Leo cloned.

So, thanks to Dotard, Putin will have direct access to our national intelligence. They should plant some overly tempting tidbits with some top secret information and see how long it takes for these tidbits to end up on Faux Lies and the lesser Fauxes, or more likely in a Dotard speech and Russian state TV. Then they should immediately be arrested, charged, held in prison until trial and then sentenced to maximum in a federal pen.

" ... appoints Republicans to a committee"

You left out the word UNQUALIFIED.

You know, the salient part.

@#9 ... a republican appointing republicans to a committee ? ...

It is beyond that.

In the past, Republican Speakers have appointed Republicans to the House Intel Committee. I've never had an issue with that, because those appointed were quite qualified for such a position.

However, those previous Republicans appointees did not place loyalty to the cult leader over the Good of the Country, as these two recent appointees seem to do. And currently, loyalty to the cult leader seems to be equivalent to a coziness with Pres Putin.

That is why you see so many questioning their appointments to the House Intel Committee.
