"Fourteen of the 15 Security Council members, including the US, voted in favour of the resolution. Russia abstained.

The resolution states that Israel has accepted the ceasefire proposal, and urges Hamas to agree to it, too.

The plan has three phases that would end with a major reconstruction plan for Gaza, which has been largely destroyed in the conflict.

The first phase of the plan concerns a hostage-prisoner swap as well as a short-term ceasefire.
The second phase includes a "permanent end to hostilities", as well as a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, according to a text of the US draft resolution.

The third phase focuses on the enclave's long-term outlook, and it would start a multi-year reconstruction plan for Gaza.

Monday's resolution comes weeks after President Joe Biden said the Israelis had agreed to a three-phase plan that would result in a permanent ceasefire in Gaza."

.

Peace, and rumors of peace.

Yeah, you're just in tears, eh?

Or would be if there were to be a cessation of fighting.

Peace in our time?

There was peace in our time.

Between Operation Desert Storm and 9/11.

For just shy of a decade, America wasn't involved with any major military operations.

Israel has managed to rescue about 7 (?) hostages in the last eight months. And Hamas/Palestinians are holding about 100 (?) more. So, in just 9 short years, Israel should be able to free the rest of the hostages on its own.

Maybe Israel should continue their emergency renovations of Gaza for the next five years and see how it goes. Who knows? Maybe President Trump 2.0 will come along to lend a hand with the rescue efforts. Hamas/Palestinians should welcome the opportunity to sacrifice a few hundred thousand more of their "civilians" in the name of "freedom."

Hamas says it accepts UN-backed Gaza truce plan, US cites 'hopeful sign'
www.reuters.com

... Hamas accepts a U.N. resolution backing a plan to end the war with Israel in Gaza and is ready to negotiate details, a senior official of the Palestinian militant group said on Tuesday in what the U.S. Secretary of State called a hopeful sign.

Qatari and Egyptian mediators said they had received a formal reply from Hamas to the U.N.-backed truce proposal, and Hamas and its ally Palestinian Islamic Jihad expressed "readiness to positively" reach a deal to end the war in Gaza in a joint statement on Tuesday.

However both Israel and Hamas have suggested the plan meets their clashing goals, raising doubts over whether any genuine headway towards a deal can be made. ...

Aww, but Hamas/Palestinians were so close. To something...

Maybe next time.

Ha!

Both sides must be really pissed that the other accepted.

Dark Brandon has, however, done a hell of a lot more to try to get these two sides talking than his opponent in the Pres race would ever do.

No upside to having live Palestinians for Trump. Dead ones, though, would be some Talibaptist votes in the bank for Trump.

Biden, on the other hand, really needs those pro-Hamas Michigan Muslims to come around before November.

Biden needs votes from Jews as much, prolly more, than he does from Muslims.

And helping bring an end to the slaughter?

That plays with most people.

Present company excepted, of course ;)

Welp, for what it's worth, I really would like the Palestinians to get over it and learn to live in peace with Israel, much like several of Israel's neighboring Muslim nations have done.

One side (Palestinians) seems much more in favor of exterminating the other (Israel), though, so all I can do is enjoy the show. Maybe in another couple hundred years there's the chance of peace. Far more likely, IMHO, that the Palestinians continue holding onto their delusions of perpetual refugee status, get their hands on nukes, and send everyone to meet their 72 virgins.

"I met with Prime Minister Netanyahu last night, and he reaffirmed his commitment to the proposal," Blinken told reporters on Tuesday.

Blinken stressed that after meeting several senior Israeli officials he is confident there is a strong consensus about moving forward with the proposal.

When asked if he got explicit assurance that if Hamas accepts the proposal, the deal is done, Blinken responded: "Yes."

Yeah, you might be on to something. "Blinken says 'Hamas has proposed numerous changes' to ceasefire proposal 'Some of the changes are workable. Some are not,' [...] the proposed deal 'was virtually identical' to a proposal that Hamas previously accepted. 'Hamas could have answered with a single word " yes,' he said."

Lol! Looks like Hamas wants to continue since they have the Israelis right where they want them. I'm thinking 200K dead Palestinians "civilians" before Hamas comes around.

At least future Palestinians will have memories of those 1,200 raped and murdered Israeli men, women, and children to look back upon fondly as they wonder where their Gaza strip went (hint: it was annexed as part of Israel).

"Hamas wants written guarantee from US that hostage deal will mean permanent end of war

Hamas wants written guarantees from the United States for a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip in order to sign off on a US-backed Israeli truce and hostage deal proposal, two Egyptian security sources say.

The Egyptian sources and a third source with knowledge of the talks say Hamas had concerns that the current proposal does not provide explicit guarantees over the transition from the first phase of the plan, which includes a six-week truce and the release of some hostages, to the second phase, which includes a permanent ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal.

The Egyptian sources say Hamas would only accept the plan if the guarantees were in place, and Egypt was in contact with the US about the demand.

"Hamas wants reassurances of an automatic transition from one phase to another as per the agreement laid out by President Biden," the third source says." excerpts
