You can support it all you want but it's not a workable idea until we build enough camps to hold about five million people.

#3 | Posted by snoofy at 2024-06-18 11:57 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 3

Logistically it's workable, your arbitrary 5 million number notwithstanding. We're down from 2.3 million to 1.2 million prisoners in the US over 15 years.

Rounding up 10 million people is the hard part, not shipping them without due process, those logistics are doable.

Terrible idea, but logistics of deportation aren't the problem. We pay for the best military logistics in the world.

Legal immigrants get tired of taking trash talk from rwingers about immigrants in general.

Of course, immigrants of any sort are a net plus economically, and less likely to commit crimes than citizens. Always have been.

Wow! Talk about pulling the ladder up behind you! Selfish conservatism seems to be a tremendously contagious disease.

If Trump is elected and implements this, it's going to be hilarious watching all these people whining about how they can't find workers.. Whining that they can't get their roofs replaced.. Whining that their favorite restaurant has closed down because they couldn't find back-of-the-house help.. Whining because there aren't any landscapers.. Whining because their housekeeper didn't show up, or their hotel rooms aren't cleaned.. Whining because it costs 50 percent more or takes 4 times longer to build already way overpriced housing.. Whining because grocery prices are getting even worse, as food rots in the fields.. you get the idea.

If you think inflation is bad now, wait until you see how much money white folks want to do those jobs.

There was a bipartisan comprehensive immigration bill on the table. The best shot at fixing this in decades. Trump rejected it for his own gains. Good luck America!

Pulling up the ladder behind you is tried and true American tradition.

If people did not do it, that would be a strange historical exception.

It is really cute to watch a bunch of white guys talking trash about Hispanics and pretending they have a clue, starting with the racist assumption that all, or even most Hispanics in the US are immigrants.

So wrong on the numbers of people in Prison period. In 2009, 1.6 Million. US Bureau of Justice About 1.9 Million in 2024. That includes a few thousand in Immigration Detention. Prison Policy They did drop for a but but have gone back up.

Also the leaders in incarceration per population: (Top 4 lead by a LONG way...)
1 - Mississippi - By a LONG way over the other top 4...
2 - Louisiana
3 - Arkansas
4 - Oklahoma
5 - Idaho
6 - Texas
7 - Arizona
8 - Kentucky
9 - Georgia
10 - Montana
11 - Alabama

As for rounding up people, what will the GOP supporters do for labor? Asking for a friend...

#14 Sothose are interesting numbers. Not quite 1% of the US population is in prison. I would have expected that number to be higher. It is almost as if to suggest going to prison is somehow avoidable.

53% of people polled, this is an opinion article, which is completely dependent on the sample group.

Also. Why keep the sample group to only Hispanics?

Is it to help European Americans feel better about their xenophobia?

Clown, you might want to read the article. The sample wasn't limited to Hispanics.

And yet, the title of the article and the title of the thread proudly display the same information, "Majority of Hispanics Now Favor Mass Deportation"

Then there's, "POLL: 53% of Hispanics Want All Illegal Immigrants Deported".

Believe what you will, this is meaningless information to help xenophobic European Americans feel better about themselves.

Looks like they're now concerned about the same stuff that white people are concerned about.

It's like I said before white people as a group aren't more ------- then other racial groups they just have to be the ones who've been the most successful.

Need an example? Okay then. Black people in the Old South when they had enough money tended to buy slaves.

I'm quoting Bureau of Justice stats.

"As of December 31, 2022, the US prison population was 1,230,100"

What you're quoting are Prison Policy Initiative numbers. It rolls local jail numbers into State Prison & Federal Prison.

Based on BoJ numbers, just saying, there's room to temporarily hold people, when Democrats eventually go down that road. Copy enough Republican border policies and we'll get there.

#18 Yes Rusty, I've started the book. One of the first examples she gives is a young man who was unable to vote because he was "labeled" as a convicted felon ... ..with absolutely no mention of HOW he came to be labeled that way ... .which incidentally was because he robbed then murdered a 17 year old boy in cold blood for resisting the robbery. If committing murder is your threshold, then yeah, going to prison is unavoidable.

So yes, I'm still reading, but with examples like that "supporting" Micheles premise, I doubt I will finish the book.

Weird ... I've only been saying for the last year the top issues for this election will be Inflation and Illegal Immigration. Anyways ... .

If Democrats want to catch up with the general public on immigration, they should urgently create groups of unofficial policy advisors consisting of successful recent legal migrants to help them develop strategies to handle the unprecedented burden on US Border Patrol. While legal and orderly immigration is good for national security and the economy, the situation on the southern border is boosting the GOP's election chances. This is a political crisis that the Biden-Harris administration and Dem politicians need to become visibly proactive about. In a sense, it's a PR opportunity if the party & administration can do right in the general public's eyes. Having successful recent immigrants (as found in Florida Nd parts of Texas & elsewhere) endorsing Dem & Biden initiatives would go far to counter the constant images of an out-of-control border shown on right wing media.
