Donald Trump's last national security adviser is calling on the Pentagon to deploy the "entire" Marine Corps to the Pacific as a bulwark against China's increasing military might.

In a wide-ranging Foreign Affairs op-ed published Tuesday, O'Brien wrote that the Defense Department should consider "relieving" the Marine Corps of missions in other parts of the world, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, in order to focus on the Pacific.

O'Brien is a close Trump adviser and the op-ed could be a blueprint of Trump's national security policy in a second term if he wins re-election. O'Brien served as national security adviser from 2019 to 2021, and is likely to be appointed to a senior post in a second Trump Cabinet.

Much of the piece focuses on China " "China" is mentioned 37 times and "Beijing" 12 times " particularly countering its expanding military influence in the Pacific.

"This morass of American weakness and failure cries out for a Trumpian restoration of peace through strength. Nowhere is that need more urgent than in the contest with China," O'Brien writes."

And morons and cowards produce moronic and cowardly solutions. Anybody who worked for Trump and walked away without a discouraging word is suited for taking on any governmental duties whatsoever. Period.

*not* suited for those duties.

More in the way recent fever dream emanations from O'Brien: "Former Trump national security adviser urges resumption of nuclear testing" (www.theguardian.com):

Donald Trump's former national security adviser Robert O'Brien, widely tipped to play a leading role in a second Trump presidency, has advocated the resumption of nuclear testing, and the possible renewed production of plutonium and weapons-grade uranium.

Arms control experts said O'Brien's proposals would accelerate the global nuclear arms race and backfire in terms of US security, handing greater advantages to Russia and China.

More jackassery in store from these dangerous creatures if they get their way.

Problem is, modern warfare is not going to look like WWII, it will be quick, decisive, and astoundingly deadly.
If we ever deploy the Marines in such a way, personally, I would bring back the draft and make the kids of the rich face the risks of defending democracy, not just defending daddy's money.

" the kids of the rich"

Have always had the connections to dodge the draft, or at least get placed in a position out of harm's way.

Cadet Bone Spurs wouldn't have been interested if they had taught it in military academy, where his parents sent him to get him out of their hair.

Not like any war directly involving the US would look.

We know what those look like. Intensive air operations, followed by a rapid invasion, followed by decades of losing the occupation.

If it's against Russia or China, there will be the question of whether the nukes come out to play. If they do, we're all dead anyway. But they almost certainly won't.

We also know Russia isn't going to attack NATO, because they now know just how badly they'd lose. And China isn't going to attack Taiwan, because they would also lose badly. There are a few wildcards out there, like North Korea and Iran. And we're not going to attack Israel (even though we should, genocide deserves a military response).
