Is it too late to celebrate this as our last 4th of July based on the founding principles of this Republic?
Did the SCOTUS jackhammer already destroy our Republic or are we waiting for the total failure from all the cracks?

What separation of powers? The Supreme Court just elevated the Presidency above the other two branches.

"The left hates Democracy"

We don't choose our President through Democracy.

The Electoral College is a distortion of democracy.

Apparently, Democracy means never having to say you are sorry... that your Cult/Party Leader is a criminal and a traitor and a massively yuuge liar.

According to dozens of his Aides and Lawyers who testified under Oath that he is just that.

I am not ashamed to admit I weep openly on this day every year.

248 years and 1 day ago, the world was literally shrouded in darkness.

There was no America. There was no freedom. There was no democracy. And there was no electricity.

But Ben Franklin changed all of that in the Oval Office with the stroke of his presidential pen.

He created what is now the oldest and greatest country on Earth.

We singlehandedly won both world wars for Europe and are the only country that is undefeated in wars.

Happy Birthday America. The entire world thanks you and loves you.

Today is not about democracy. Today is about our Independence from a tyrannical dictator. The day we DECLARED our independence. We did not have a stable democracy yet at that time.

Enjoy it. Celebrate it. Try and remember how we got here and why we wanted independence from a tyrant who (amongst a whole list of atrocities and offenses):

"has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good."

According to many historians Democracy actually arrived here officially when on September 19, 1796 years ago, George Washington published his farewell address ... marking one the first peaceful transfers of power in American history and cementing the country's status as a stable, democratic state.

A sturdy old woman (sometimes referred to as "an anxious lady"), wearing a shawl, approached Benjamin Franklin and asked him, "well, Doctor, what do we have, a republic or a monarchy?" Franklin replied sagely, "a republic, if you can keep it."

In most versions of the story, the old woman is supposed to represent the ordinary patriot in the new United States, wondering what the future would portend, but also fearful that the Constitutional delegates had chosen the easy and traditional option " a monarchy. Ben Franklin, among the eldest of the elder statesmen at the Convention, represents wisdom, and the foresight that decades in the Independence struggle had given him.

We have a Republic, he conveyed, but it will be up to the people to keep it a Republic. And that duty will require constant vigilance in the coming centuries.

"If you ever wondered what you'd have done in ancient Rome, when the Roman Republic was shuttered and Augustus Caesar declared himself the "first" citizen of Rome, the answer is:

whatever you're doing right now.

It's what you would have done during the Restoration of King Charles II in England, and what you would have done when Napoleon declared himself emperor of France.

This, right here, is how republics die."

Kamala is a horrible candidate. Hell she couldn't even get her own campaign off of the ground the last time. What makes you think she would be good this time around??

I mentioned what he said, which was funny. He's a comedian. If you see the video, you'll see that he doesn't think she would win. Neither do I, though she'd be fine with me.

Given the impact of the Immunity decision, it makes one wonder what the SC knows about Republican efforts to steal the coming election?

Would the SC be so cavalier to hand a Democratic president such power it they thought ------- could lose in November?

As revealed on the Nooner almost daily, most of you hate most of your fellow Americans, but pretend to love America. At this point I've mostly given up on the American Dream for future generations. We have destroyed almost everything about this country which united us and made us accepting of different points of view. We all suck and are clearly only getting worse.

How many have finally figured out that democracy as defined by the west is only for Europeans?

All others better "tow the line" or be subject to coups, assassinations etc.

Boaz, you are a deluded moron. If, god forbid, you get your way, get ready to watch your quality of life crater as everyone who picks your food and butchers your animals exits the country and everyone with half a brain who innovates in this country leaves for greener pastures. You'll be left with some version or Russia, possibly with an ill-advised invasion of Mexico or something.

We vote for our representatives who then represent us in congress etc. That is a representative democracy, aka, a republic, you pinecone. You know this but are salivating at the thought of fascism and saying that we don't live in a democracy is a way for you to rationalize your desire to destroy our country.

#36 | POSTED BY BOAZ

Looks like you have nothing to add to the conversation anyway.

Most of us understand that we are not a PURE democracy.

Anyone who says we are not a democracy is probably in afraid of being the minority party and is seeing their present privileges under threat and is figuring out how to maintain political dominance with a minority of support.

So No. "we don't all put on a clean toga and rush down to the forum to vote in person on every issue."

But we do vote for and elect our representatives democratically and so we have a representative democracy.

#45 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-07-05 01:48 PM | Reply

You all are missing Boaz' point.

Boaz does not believe in democracy as you understand it.

He believes in the supremacy of the state, thus he is a republican.

A republican, ironically enough, in his mind actually being strongly anti-federalist.

Thus, when you argue that our democracy is under attack, in his mind he thinks "GREAT!"

Boaz, despite what would be considered inherent in an anti-federalist position, is not a strong believer in individual rights (except the right to bear arms).

Boaz, thus holds a weird permutation of antebellum beliefs, something that should have died in 1865.

Boaz, thinking the state is supreme thinks of the Presidency as an entity that should return power to the states.

But, Boaz is not a deep thinker. Boaz does not see the danger of an imperial presidency. Boaz cannot see beyond the end of his nose that the danger a ------- poses to his "state's rights" position. Boaz can only see a president that holds antagonistic views of the same people he does-LGBTQ, immigrants, poor people. Boaz does not realize that -------, like any good authoritarian, has zero core values and will do what he wants in the moment that he thinks is in his best interest.

Boaz cannot conceive how an attitude like that will bite his state's right's ass in the ass.

------- will use his power to infringe on the things Boaz holds dear at the exact instance it benefits -------. Say, for example, when his power is threatened by the 2nd amendment. Boaz forgets ------- saying the following "Take the guns first, go through due process second".

No, long story short, Boaz is right, you cannot have a conversation with him, because you misunderstand where he is coming from, and he is not intelligent enough to recognize the danger he is in.

Sometimes I wonder if "history buff" Boaz participates in Civil War reenactments, on the butternut side of course, as an unshackled gofer, perhaps a latrine digger or muleskinner. Now, that's originalism fer ye.
