The planned order follows years of campaign promises from President Donald Trump to abolish the department -- something he cannot do without congressional approval.

If Trump dismantles the Dept. of Education, he will be jeopardizing public education for our most vulnerable communities. Rural schools. Low-income areas. Special ed teachers and students with disabilities. Our families, kids, and teachers deserve more.

More from the article...

... The planned order follows years of campaign promises from Trump to abolish the federal Education Department, which was established in 1979, during President Jimmy Carter's administration.

In September 2023, the then-candidate posted a video to social media saying, "One other thing I'll be doing very early in the administration is closing up the Department of Education in Washington D.C., and sending all education and education work and needs back to the states."

"In total American society pours more than $1 trillion a year into public education systems but instead of being at the top of the list, we are literally right smack -- guess what -- at the bottom," Trump said earlier in the video. ...

We're all about to learn that you can do just that. It won't be legal, but there's no one to stop it. The GOP is fully behind it. Will the courts do anything about it? Unknown. More importantly, though, is if and that's a big if, who will enforce the court's decision? Who is going to stop it?

Donald Trump cannot unilaterally abolish a federal agency without the approval of Congress.

Just watch him do it.

Musk is destroying the federal government and Trump is legalizing it.

Democrats can make all the noise they want.

But project 2025 is rolling full steam ahead.

Will the courts do anything about it?

Musk is just going to freeze all funding to it and watch it die.

Courts can't do shht.

The fact Donald Trump is a free man proves that.

"Musk is destroying the federal government and Trump is legalizing it."

Yes, this is not about cost-savings or remaking the federal governmnent. It's about destroying the federal government. Trump and Musk and their billionaire cronies want to take us back to the time of the robber barons and the Gilded Age. They want to destroy FDR's New Deal and everything that has come after it. They are off to a fabulous start:

Throughout now-president Donald Trump's 2024 campaign, it was clear that his support was coming from three very different factions whose only shared ideology was a determination to destroy the federal government. Now we are watching them do it.

The group that serves President Donald Trump is gutting the government both to get revenge against those who tried to hold him accountable before the law and to make sure he and his cronies will never again have to worry about legality.

The U.S. Department of Education has provided several positive impacts for American citizens since its establishment as a Cabinet-level agency in 1980. These impacts include:

1. Financial support for education: The Department distributes financial aid to eligible applicants for early childhood, elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education[1][2]. This includes grants, loans, and work-study assistance to more than 12 million postsecondary students[1].

2. Promoting educational excellence: The Department works to foster educational excellence and ensure equal access to education for all students[1]. It develops policies, administers programs, and enforces federal education laws to improve the quality of education nationwide[2].

3. Data collection and research: The Department oversees research on various aspects of education, collects data on trends, and identifies best practices in education[2]. This information is disseminated to educators, policymakers, parents, and the public to help improve educational outcomes.

4. Civil rights enforcement: The Department enforces five civil rights statutes to ensure equal educational opportunity for all students, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age[2]. This helps protect the rights of vulnerable populations and promotes equity in education.

5. Student aid programs: The Department administers federal student aid programs, including Pell Grants, which provide need-based grants to low-income undergraduate students[5]. These programs help make higher education more accessible and affordable for many Americans.

6. Support for disadvantaged students: Through programs like Title I, the Department provides additional funding and resources to support disadvantaged students and schools in low-income areas[7].

7. Promoting educational choice: The Department has worked to expand educational options for families, including support for charter schools and school choice programs[7].

While the Department of Education has faced criticism and challenges, these positive impacts demonstrate its role in supporting and improving education for U.S. citizens.
