NORTH PORTLAND, Ore. " The homeless problem in Portland isn't limited to the streets downtown, or any streets for that matter. All you have to do is take a scenic boat ride and you'll find the same problems -- crime, garbage and pollution. Our cameras spotted dozens of tents, sheds and docks. And then there are the boats -- floating, sunk and partially sunk. As we cruised on the Columbia, just off the beach, houseboat neighbor Don Larson showed us the problem on the beach, on the water and under the water.
Biden's rambling explanation of how he made Corn Pop stand down was making the rounds on social media as the former vice president was seeking to burnish his credentials with black voters. Biden, in a speech at the 6th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala. on Sunday afternoon, told attendees that "we are in a battle for the soul of America" and that the "revulsion of hate" can "bring out the best in us." But Biden's lifeguarding tale was immediately questioned by commentators with sway in the black community. The former vice president has long claimed that he had applied to be a lifeguard at the pool to better understand black America, and said in his 2007 memoir that Corn Pop often tormented him at the pool. For example, Biden said Corn Pop would insult Biden's mother to distract him so that people could sneak into the pool.

PHILADELPHIA -- Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson was a healthy inactive for the first time in his storied career, a move that had been mentioned all week as a possibility.
Peterson, the NFL's eighth all-time leading rusher with 13,138 career yards, is Washington's backup to Derrius Guice. But the Redskins rarely have kept four running backs active in coach Jay Gruden's tenure. That means they want the backup to contribute on special teams; Peterson doesn't. Instead, Wendell Smallwood, claimed off waivers from Philadelphia a week ago, plays on multiple special teams. read more
