Legendary Rams QB Roman Gabriel, NFL MVP, Dies

By the late '60s, [Roman] Gabriel was a star quarterback and earned Pro Bowl selections for three straight seasons (1967-69). He also earned NFL MVP and All-Pro honors in 1969 while leading the league in touchdown passes with 24.

"In 1962, Gabriel, who played at NC State from 1959-1961, was the No. 1 overall pick in the AFL Draft and the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Instead of signing with the AFL's Raiders, Gabriel joined the NFL's Rams, a decision that paid major dividends for the franchise."

They had Deacon Jones and Merlin Olsen on Defense. Lost a couple of Championship games, though, which is prolly why he's not in the Hall.

When i was a kid living in LA I use to be Bart Starr and my buddy would be Roman Gabriel. Back and forth we went on the front lawn.
