Foreign volunteers continue fighting and dying against the Russian army. The latest casualty is a 20-year-old Finnish volunteer from Turku. Numerous other Finnish volunteers have died in Ukraine since Russia invaded in 2022,includingformer politician Ville Mykkanen, who was was KIA in Aug 2024. Other KIA: Kakha Tilidze from Georgia, Edgars Platonovs from Latvia, andRichard S.from Austria, Filip Antosiak (19) from Poland who had left his studies in the UK to join a Ukrainian UAV unit. On 9 Apr, an unnamed Lithuanian soldierhad been KIA. While the Kremlin attracts riffraff, convicts seeking parole, white supremacists, and international fugitives for its army, Ukraine attracts global volunteers, much like the Scandinavians who fought for Finland against the USSR in 1939 or the Intl Brigade that fought in the Spanish Civil War (1936-39).
