A classified US report has found that Israeli military units committed "many hundreds" of potential human rights violations in Gaza that will take "multiple years" to review. The findings mark the first time a USG report has acknowledged the scale of IDF actions in Gaza that fall under the purview of Leahy Laws, which bar funding to units credibly accused of such abuses. US officials said the watchdog findings raised doubts about the prospects for accountability for Israel's actions given the large backlog of incidents and the nature of the review process, which is immensely deferential to the IDF. Since the Likud Party initiated its retribution pogrom on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on 7 Oct 2023, the IDF has killed 68,643 human beings, mostly women and children, maiming and injuring another 170,655 people (UN, 31 Oct 2025). In 2023, Israel's rightwing Heritage Minister Amihai Eliyahu was roundly condemned for suggesting that the IDF use a nuclear weapon against the Palestinians in Gaza (AP, 14 Nov 2023). Since WWII, the hardworking American taxpayer has provided more foreign aid to Israel than to any other country at $317.9bn, a nation that provides world-class universal healthcare for its citizens, something Americans will never enjoy. International arrest warrants for war crimes remain active for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and ex-DM Yoav Gallant. Indictments are merely allegations. Both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty at an international tribunal to be held for them at a future date.

For the Democratic Party, losing the progressive bloc on Tuesday 5 Nov 2024 was a mirror reflection of Tuesday 5 Nov 1968.
